May Goals

Can you believe it?! It’s MAY. MAY. Seriously!?!? I have 5 days left of school and then my second year of law school is over. That is just crazy to me!!! I feel like I just got started with this semester!

Well, you know what the beginning of the month means – goal time! For those of you who are new to my blog, every month I make a new list of goals, as well as re-cap my goals from the month before to see how I did. First, we’ll take a look at my goals from April:

April Goal Re-Cap:

1. Take spinning classes. EPIC FAIL. Nothing more to be said; no good excuses. I’m human, and this human is scared to try something new! I know, I know, I’ll love it when I get there and it’s only an hour if I hate it. But it’s intimidating! Every day I had a “cardio day” I’d use it to run instead. At least I have that Groupon that I have to use eventually…

2. STUDY FOR FINALS AND KICK BUTT! AHHHHHHHHHHH In the middle of this and trying!!! Having a hard time with it though – so many other things going through my head! I need to hit some coffee shops and really focus for the next 5 days and I’ll be done!

3. Re-arrange my apartment/get a a desk! Well, I made my “janky desk” but that’s as far as I got on this one. Too many other things have come up that I want to spend money on, like the Healthy Living Summit, new clothes and visiting friends! Janky desk will just have to do…

4. No anxiety/boredom eating! About that… something I’m consciously working on every day, but definitely haven’t defeated it. Granted, I don’t think anyone could completely stop boredom eating! Everyone does it every once and a while. But I’m making some progress!

5. Adventurous April Totally did this!!!  Haha FINALLY! I submitted something to Janetha’s Adventurous April every week! Head over to her blog to check it out!

Now that we’ve gone over my pathetic turn out for April, it’s time to forget the past and move on to my goals for May! I’ll actually be spending the majority of May at home, in Kansas City! I am SO EXCITED to go home!!!

May Goals

1. Go to the Kansas City Zoo! Last week I talked about how much I loved being able to walk and run through the Lincoln Park zoo. We’re so lucky here in Chicago to have a free zoo, with amazing exhibits! When I’m home in Kansas City, I’d love to go to our zoo. I haven’t been in years and I love it, and I’d love to support it!

2. Keep up my running mileage. With recovering from the half marathon and then “taperinga bit for the 10 miler I ran this weekend, my mileage has dropped quite a bit in the past 6 weeks. Since I’ll be starting marathon training in June, I want to get my mileage up to at least 20 a week so that marathon training isn’t as much of a shocker!

3. Buy new running shoes! I got some great new shoes over Thanksgiving, but I’ve definitely hit at least 400 miles in them running and plenty more walking around. It’s time to get some new shoes and I’ve been putting it off until I went home to go to the same store that I went to last time, Garry Gribble’s, since they were so helpful last time!

4. Work on having “me time.” A friend of mine told me I really should work on having some “me time” every day. Meaning a half hour or so where I don’t worry about To Do lists, getting in workouts, eating, school, anything! Just time to relax and do something I enjoy and sit with my own thoughts. I’ve had a much harder time doing this than I anticipated – I always put it off! Hopefully with the free time between school and my internship, I’ll be able to turn this into a habit that I can keep up!

  1. I set random May goals yesterday! But I made a long long list of summer things I want to do which I am REALLY excited about. I am going to add going to the zoo to it — thanks for the idea! 🙂

  2. I definitely don’t get enough ‘me’ time. I guess my ‘me’ time is when I go running or to the gym. I do have to work on that more. And marathon training – what marathon?! I want to hear about it!

  3. I love your goal of having ‘me time’. That is so important and something that we all overlook (myself included). I know you will rock your exams. Also, way to go on staying so honest and realizing that hey, we are all human and not all goals can be met with shining colors. (I forget this a lot and realize I need to be less hard on myself!)

  4. I love that quote you used! The Help became one of my favorite movies after I watched it last week. I didn’t know it was based off a book until afterwards, but now it’s on my list of books to read as well. 🙂

  5. great job on your april goals! i definitely would still try to get to a spin class… i think you’ll like it! 🙂
“me time” is huge for me. going for a walk or doing my devotions is crucial for me to feel relaxed!

  6. Congrats on completing your 2L year! 3L year will be a breeze! For “me time,” I run and blog – that’s the time I get to be by myself, minus my phone and email!

  7. Spin class is really not that bad, I promise 🙂 (this is coming from someone who hated the bike too. hah).

And YES!! Me time is amazing. I use it to sit still, go on a walk, meditate, and even write goals or journal. This is vital to my health and sanity!!

YAH for the marathon training to begin! I am stoked for ya!

  8. My school time has flown too–I actually just graduated with my Master’s in Counseling this weekend! First time in two years that I don’t have class from 6 until 10 tonight!

Our adventure: My husband was accepted into medical school and so we’ll be moving ACROSS THE COUNTRY in two months. I’ve never lived farther than 100 miles away from my family before! But I’m super excited and happy for him to be pursuing his dream!

    • Um AWESOME that you graduated and are all done! And even more awesome that you’re starting this new adventure!!! You might love it, or you might find you want to move closer to home after he’s done with school. Either way, it will be an amazing and exciting chapter in your life! Congrats!!

      • Thank you! You know, I really thought if I ever moved out of ND and the cold weather I wouldn’t want to come back…but now that we actually are preparing to move, we keep finding ourselves talking about how we can come back as soon as possible to be back with our families. Funny how actually doing something can put it into perspective for you!
