As posted on BusinessWire, Microsoft’s In-house legal department was chosen by ALM’s Corporate Counsel as the best in the nation. ALM will feature the winner and the runners up in its June edition as well as on its website.
The 459 person staff, despite its reputation for bulldog tenacity and aggressive legal tactics, was cited by ALM for a number of achievements including the amicable settlement of a major anti-trust dispute with the European Union. The legal department was also lauded for its pro bono work and its efforts to increase efficiency in response to company-wide budget cuts.
According to BusinessWire, winners were selected from responses to a questionnaire developed by and then evaluated by the editors and reporters of Corporate Counsel. The surveys were distributed to the general counsel of all Fortune 500 corporations.
