Neil Eggleston has been brought on as chief counsel at the White House, according to The Associated Press. Eggleston has been hired in the midst of President Barack Obama facing a lawsuit from House Speaker John Boehner, opposition from the Supreme Court and congressional investigations.
“As I used to tell clients in private practice, anybody can sue anybody over anything,” Eggleston told The Associated Press. “The fact that he’s going to say that he’s going to bring some lawsuit is not going to affect what the president is going to do.”
Eggleston was recommended by outgoing counsel Kathy Ruemmler, which is when Obama first met him. Ruemmler organized a meet-and-greet for Eggleston and other lawyers for the administration.
Eggleston will advise Obama on congressional investigations, diplomatic policy and judicial nominations. He will also serve as a national security adviser for issues regarding counterterrorism operations.
Eggleston could be enjoying the retired life right now, he is 61, but instead decided to return to the White House. According to his financial disclosures, Eggleston’s assets include anywhere from $15 million to $43 million. He said he was able to build his fortune by spending very little. He owns one house and drives a car that is eight-years-old. He also only vacations within the United States during the summer months.
