Hey everyone! I hope you are all having a great weekend! I am so far!
Yesterday I started out with a 7 mile run with my CARA training group. It. Was. Rough. My legs were dying from my run and spin class on Thursday (more on that on WIAW…) and walking around the Chicago Taste with the other interns on Friday. Either way, it was humid, the pacers were going too fast, and I was BEAT. Haha but I survived! Excuses, excuses.
Anyway, I had much to look forward to! I headed home, hopped in the shower, and then was on my way out to the suburbs! Why?? I had a doctor’s appointment.
Isn’t that EXCITING?!?!??
Okay, okay. I had something WAY more exciting to do beforehand! I was meeting Chelsey for brunch!! She knew a great brunch place and when she looked it up to send to me, she realized they had a GLUTEN FREE MENU.
Lots of restaurants have gluten free menus nowadays, but usually it’s just the regular menu items they have that don’t have gluten, like salads without gluten ingredients, or the salmon with steamed asparagus, etc. Well this was a REAL gluten free menu! They had gluten free pancakes, toast, and french toast!!!!! Needless to say, we were pretty excited.
I made it out to Café Miele in Orland Park, IL and Chelsey had just grabbed us a table. I was so confused on what to order, there were too many choices! Chelsey made the smart point that we usually have zero choices that we aren’t used to so many options! This was a good problem to have. We both were dying for the pancakes, but wanted some “real” breakfast too, so we both ended up ordering egg white omelets with veggies and then pancakes in place of toast.
Chelsey was smart and ate most of her omelet, saving a good bit of her second pancake to take home. I, on the other hand, abandoned the omelet early on and went after those pancakes! They were so fluffy! I hadn’t had really pancakes in probably years and to be sitting there, in a restaurant where SOMEONE ELSE made me some gluten free pancakes was thrilling and mind boggling all at the same time. Seriously, I kept waiting for someone to pinch me.
You may think I sound insane, but if you’re gluten free then you totally get me.
This is me when I normally go to brunch and the person I’m with orders pancakes or french toast:

Today I’m off to meet another friend for brunch this morning (no GF pancakes…) and then go to COSTCO with my cousin! You have no idea how excited I am for Costco. And, they’re may be some froyo thrown in there afterwards. Dream day.
What is your dream Sunday? What are you doing today?
What’s your favorite brunch item to order?
YESSSS for pancakes. I broke into mine around midnight last night after I helped my husband to bed. (you know, weddings get a little crazy) It wasn’t quite as good, but it was still delicious. We’ll have to go back soon!
Hahaha good thing you saved it! And yes, we’ll definitely have to go back, I’m trying the French Toast next time!
That’s awesome you found some gluten free pancakes! I totally get you on this issue. I’m not gluten free but I’m allergic to dairy and eggs so having food in resturants can be a chanllege sometimes.
My dream Sunday would be some bike riding around Manhattan. Today I’m going hopping though because I need some clothes for my vacation.
My favorite brunch item is pancakes if I can get them made without eggs and dairy which means if I don’t go to a vegan friendly Place I’m stuck with oatmeal (if made with water) or a salad.
dairy and eggs is very challenging!! Breakfast has got to be rough eating out! Have fun shopping!
Thanks. I had a nice time and got some cute things and sale items. Eating out is a challenge. Thankfully I live in New York so it makes it easier because many places around here are very vegan friendly.
OMG!!!! I am so jelous. I miss french toast so bad that I would gave gotten that. Looks like I need to go to IL 🙂
Haha I told Chelsey I’m getting that next time!
That is awesome! I want to find some place near me that does that.
I find a lot of places by just googling for it, or yelp!
yay! glad you got some delicious GF pancakes! i’m sure it was heaven. 🙂 love you ladies!
Wish you were there!!!
That’s so awesome! It’s so hard to find gluten free options at restaurants, especially good ones! Speaking of gf, I went to Mista last night and they DO have gf pizza crust. It’s made with brown rice flour and its really good! Definitely worth checking out!
Yes!!!! I’ll have to go there, hopefully this weekend! Haha I’m not too patient.
those omelets are HUGE and so full of veggies! They look awesome! Maybe I haven’t been following your blog long enough but do you ever make your own gluten free pancakes/bread?
I’ve actually only made pancakes once, and I eat Udi’s bread. I’m big on oatmeal 🙂 haha. I didn’t eat much bread or pancakes before going GF so I don’t really think to make them!
whoa those gluten free pancakes look amazing, I have never had gluten free pancakes. That place really looks delicious.
It was, and the menu had so many good looking items!!!
lol @ your gifs to describe the two situations. awesome find!
Haha i thought they fit well!
Yay for gluten-free pancakes! I’m glad they were good too. 🙂
Sorry, I was one of those people that ordered pancakes with you at breakfast…. :/ I like the gifs you found though, haha
Lol no worries, it would bother me more if someone didn’t order what they wanted because of me!!
oh my god, those pancakes look amazing. so glad you found some that were GF and still delicious! looks like the trip all the way out to orland was worth it 🙂
It was definitely worth it, and the company even more so!
I really love ordering veggie omelets and breakfast potatoes!
Breakfast potatoes are soooo good!
Now I’m craving a good egg white omelette…I love it when they’re really hearty and satisfying! I used to totally be a sweet brunch lover, but now I’m getting into the savory much more 🙂 Your pancakes look mighty good, though!
I always seem to make sweet for myself, but want to order savory!
I totally get this. Whenever I go to brunch with someone, I’m always so envious when they order french toast or pancakes. I’ve even asked if I could smell their plate before. Hahaha!
Hahaha I’ve wanted to do that!!!!
Oh my gosh…I’m seriously craving pancakes now. Those look amazing! I’ve never seen gluten-free pancakes that fluffy. And how fun that you were able to meet up with Chelsey! That definitely makes up for having a doctors appointment. (:
It’s always great to see Chelsey, especially when there are pancakes involved!!!
Omg – I LOVE pancakes!! I make some delicious 3 ingredient flourless pancakes. We have them every weekend. They taste like dessert but are actually really healthy.
Sounds good!!!
Yay I’m glad you found a restaurant with so many options!
It was fantastic, thanks!!
There’s truly nothing like ordering pancakes and eggs for a traditional breakfast. Happy to see you finally satisfied the craving!
Thanks, Irina!!!
the omelet and the pancakes both look fantastic!! and those two animations are SO true hahaha!
i haven’t been out to brunch that much, but if i did I think I would order eggs and country potatoes (aka an excuse to eat french fries for breakfast!)!
Potatoes are so good at breakfast!
I’m a big fan of omelets. Sometimes I branch out and get hearty pancakes, but I’m really picky about my ‘cakes and their butter/cake ratio. I also like some good solid oatmeal sometimes!
I never ordered pancakes before but it was just too exciting because I actually had the option again!
I looooooove pancakes. The patrick gif made me laugh hehe!
