Kaixo!
Yes, we’re back to international greetings… Anyone know where today’s comes from? Anyway, I hope you all had a great Monday! Well, if Mondays could be great?
So you all know I’m a huge fan of PicMonkey. If you missed them before, here are my previous PicMonkey tutorials:
PicMonkey has come out with a lot of new features, including “spring” overlays as well as something that I’m really excited about: their new light effects!
I love the effects that PicMonkey has available, many of which I used in my “What’s in My Make Up Bag” post to make the images more fun. Sometimes they’re subtle, and other times not so much, but I love the artsy factor.
To find the new light effects, once you’ve opened a photo, click on the effects icon and then scroll down a bit until you see them:
The five new effects are Bokeh, Radiance, Lens Flare, Sunglow and Spotlight. The best thing to do is just play around with them a bit to see what you like and when you might use it.
Here is an example of me messing around with a couple on a picture I took from Colorado.
First I used Bokeh. I changed the shape, and then also changed Blur to Glowy. After that I clicked on the paintbrush icon and chose to use the brush to remove the effect from the lower part of the picture, so that the effect was only in the sky.
I also tried out the lens flare:
And then I removed the glare and tried out sunglow, moving the sun down to the right side and lessening the size just a bit:
See how these effects can make the picture look so much different? I’m really glad they added these, I think they’re a lot of fun.
When I first messed around with them, I used my favorite subject: MOLLY! Here are some of my favorites:
Isn’t she beautiful? Haha love her. Please feel free to e-mail me or ask me questions in the comments if you’d like to know anything more about picmonkey, I love sharing and I’m a huge fan of the site!
Do you like to edit photos?
What’s your favorite subject to photograph?
Disclaimer: Picmonkey has not compensated me in any way, I share my knowledge of the site purely out of my own use and love for it!
I saw the new features, but hadn’t checked them out yet. Love the picture from Colorado. It could be out of a fairytale book! 🙂
And I’m going to have to use some of the new effects on pictures of my dog too. Lol. Glowing like an angel 🙂
Haha definitely use them on your dog!
Molly is SO CUTE! I love pic monkey, I use it to overlay my logo for my blog photos. Will have to try out these new filters!
Haha it took me a while to do that overlay logo, I was so glad they had instructions for a watermark!
Molly looks like the perfect photo subject! I haven’t really used much photo editing but I would like to start trying, especially since I take a lot of pictures with my phone camera.
Yea, I use it for that reason, it really improves my iPhone photos!
your pics look great! I love picmonkey! though I have to admit I defer to instagram a lot because I take most of my pics on my phone and I’m lazy 😉
I use my phone too, I just email them to myself!
I am LOVING PicMonkey and love your tips. Such a great tool!
It really is great, even the free features are more than enough!
Pic Monkey rocks! I’m starting to get more into it, but I need to play around with effects a bit more. I usually just edit my photos to give them a color boost. I’m not the best photog so I need all the help I can get!
It definitely just takes a little time messing around with it!
Thank god you post these bc you know i have no idea how to use any of this stuff… i just know how to add tiny hats on people.
well tiny hats are the only important thing
You’re pretty brilliant. 😉 I use PicMonkey regularly, but I’m not very creative with it. I had no idea they even had new options! Very cool!
Haha I just spend way too much time on PicMonkey, I love messing with images!
Pic Monkey is my next blog endeavor after I send my first Tweet. So much pressure!! I love photography & actually loved playing with things in the dark room!
No pressure! You can take it or leave it, do what works for you!
I use picmonkey to edit photos but I keep it pretty basic and just resize my pics and then hit that magic button that improves the lighting and contrast. Ta da… edited photo!
Haha I actually stated edited most myself, sometimes I don’t like what the auto-adjust does to it. I spend way too much time on my computer… haha
i am not a photography person (obviously if you have seen my blog hahaha) mostly because i am just not patient enough and i dont LIKE to edit pictures but i do and i actually recently started using picmonkey and i LOVE it. they make it so easy!
I know, I never edited my photos before picmonkey but it’s so quick and easy!
Oh my gosh!! These features are so cool!! ANd that last pic of Molly is precious!!!
She’s the perfect subject!
I love picmonkey. I tweeted about it a few times and now I get random emails from them about their new features. It’s a little weird because I never gave them my address…hmmm… Molly sure is a cutie!!
I get those emails too! No idea how that happened.
I love picmonkey, was I was disappointed when they started making a lot of their features a paid-for service!
I pay for it, it’s really not much and I use it every day so I figured it’s worth it!
I never edit photos, unless I’m on Instagram 🙁 I just don’t have the patience for it, I even dislike taking more than one shot of something. Blurry? Meh, they’ll get the idea … clearly photography is not my calling! 🙂
Haha that’s totally fine if it’s not for you!
Love the photos of Molly! Do you use the free version of PicMonkey or the paid subscription one? I can’t wait to check out their new features!
I decided to get the paid version since I use it almost daily, but I’m pretty sure these new light effects are free!
I love taking pictures of my dog!!! Yours is SO cute!
I’m sure yours is too – they’re the best photography subject!
Wow! I’ve never been to PicMonkey but it sounds really neat! Editing pictures makes them so much better. It changes the whole thing! Molly is so cute 🙂
