Yia sas!
And happy Friday! (wasn’t sure how to say that in Greek…).
I found this link the other day that someone posted on Facebook from Buzzfeed, called “What It’s Like To Be a 20-Something as Told by “Mean Girls,” “Bridesmaids,” and “Girls.”
Read it. I was laughing out loud in my apartment and now I hope my neighbors don’t think I’ve gone insane. Everything on there is SO TRUE!!!!
This is my favorite gif from the sequence:
But now you’re like,
And…
I can’t stop laughing.
Moving on… Today I have a recipe for you!
Did your jaw just drop to the floor? Yea, I know, it’s been a while. But don’t worry, it’s super simple: Peanut Butter Banana Recovery Smoothie!
The other day I went to the gym and ran my 1.75 miles before Zumba (I didn’t get it done Wednesday). By the time I’d finished I’d been working out for 1.5 hours and I was hungry and in need of some refueling!
Peanut Butter Banana Recovery Smoothie
Ingredients
3/4 cup milk (I used almond milk)
1/2 banana
1 scoop protein powder (I use Sunwarrior Vanilla)
1 T peanut butter
handful of ice
1 packet stevia
1/4 tsp vanilla
1/8-1/4 tsp xantham gum (optional)
Directions
Put ingredients into blender and blend! It’s best to add the ice in slowly, especially if you’re blender tends to get stopped up.
It was delicious.
I’ve never actually made a smoothie with peanut butter in it; I always felt like it was a waste of peanut butter since you weren’t really getting the full effect of the peanutty buttery goodness. I was surprised how much you could taste it!
Have you ever used peanut butter in a smoothie?
What’s your workout today?
Do you make sure to have a recovery drink/meal after a workout?
I use PB2 like every morning in my protein shakes! Love it!
I remember trying that once a long time ago and I couldn’t taste it, haha maybe I didn’t use enough?
I had a smoothie for breakfast this morning! So quick and easy!
soooo easy! Haha and I can carry it around with me!
I was going to head to the gym today for an upper body and HIIT workout buuut….everything here is closed today. So impromptu rest day today, and getting it done tomorrow.
I always have either a smoothie or a high protein/high carb meal after a workout. Gotta feed those muscles. 🙂
Hopefully it will all be open tomorrow!
I have used PB2 in smoothies because lets be honest, Peanut butter makes everything better 🙂 I have never added xantham gum to my smoothies, I feel like every smoothie recipe I see has it. I really should get some and try it.
Just a little bit can make your smoothie a lot thicker (although don’t put too much or it gets gummy and tastes weird!)
hehe, i needed a good laugh today and a good smoothie!
Well I’m glad you got what you needed! Have a great weekend, Lindsay!
I totally love the “I’m poor” GIF. So true for most 20-somethings, especially if you’re still in school. I’ve never used peanut butter in a smoothie because I don’t know if I would like the texture. My smoothies already come out thicker than I’d like. I was going to run a 6 mile tempo outside, but I’ve heard that things are icy out there and y legs are sore, so I might move that run to tomorrow.
I love my smoothies thick! Haha I’d rather eat them with a spoon if I can!
I need to start working on my smoothie skills, mine just never turn out too good
Have you tried following a recipe exactly? Sometimes that’s the best way to start and then adjust the next few times to make it how you prefer.
Looks delicious! I love the simple combo of banana + peanut butter. I add peanut butter quite often to my smoothies for the taste, but also for the nutrients and satiety it gives me.
That’s why I added it – needed some healthy fats!
LOVE pb in smoothies! Always a special treat.
Definitely, makes the smoothie more special I think!
PB does work great in smoothies! I have to be in the mood to DRINK my PB though. Today I”m off to go do some cardio and a legs workout before the blizzard comes…yeesh.
I hope you got in that workout before the blizzard!!!
Totally agree with you about “wasting” PB in the shake, but you may have convinced me to try it. How much are you in love with your Vitamix? right?
Omg I love it! Although I feel like I don’t use it enough – I need new ways other than just smoothies!
I don’t understand why Buzzfeed hasn’t offered me a job yet…my blog is BASICALLY the same thing.
Seriously. Give them a call.
I love adding peanut butter into my smoothies. I’m surprised as how much you really can taste it!
I was too, I was worried I wouldn’t taste it at all!
I like putting pb2 in smoothies because I feel like you can add more to get a peanut buttery taste without wasting the good stuff :).
I’m pretty good about recovery drinks after long runs in the summer but once it gets cold, I prefer recovery oatmeal!
Recovery oatmeal sounds pretty good to me!
My favorite smoothie from the smoothie place at my former gym was the chocolate peanut butter one. YUM!!! I can recreate it at home but it’s just not the same as having someone else make it for you. The Pier-Nut Butter & Jelly one from Protein Bar is another fav of mine.
OMG I got the Pier-Nut Butter & Jelly once and it was SO GOOD!
My workout today was a 5 mi run this morning and hopefully yoga tonight! Not a fan of smoothies though so i like pb toast, pb banana bread, or chocolate milk to refuel 🙂
Whew, two a day! And chocolate milk is the best!
Proteeeeeeeiiiiinnn!! I love protein shakes. LOVE ’em.
Haha it was inspired by you! I thought – well Annette always has something right after a workout, I really should!
Yum! This looks delicious 🙂 I love to use peanut butter in my smoothies; however, I still haven’t bought xantham gum. I really need to pick some up!
I love how it makes smoothies a little thicker, just don’t put too much in or it gets gummy and tastes so weird!
Hey Katie,
I’ve been meaning to do this for some time and finally am. I really enjoy your blog – partly (or maybe initially), I’m sure, because I grew up in Chicago. I continue to think of it as “home,” even though I left when I was twenty one, just a tad more than half of my life ago – yikes!
I also love your recipes (I’m looking forward to trying today’s!) and reading about your food adventures, and wanted to say Thanks!
~ Liz
Aw thank you Liz!!! I love hearing from readers, thank you for reading!
I use pb in my smoothies all the time! When I have pb2, I prefer that but both are so yummy!
I need to try PB2, I tried it once and couldn’t really taste it so I never tried it again! This was like 2 years ago…
I totally put peanut butter in smoothies…and you are right, you taste it more than you think you would. Now they aren’t as good in my opinion without it!
Haha I might become addicted!
I’ve never used PB in a smoothie, buuuuuuut that’s because I’m allergic to it 😛 I -have- used roasted almond butter and really love it… definitely improves the taste and creaminess factor.
Aww my dad is allergic too! I should try almond butter, I bet that would be good too! I loooove almond butter 🙂
Hey Katie!!! I love that 20-Something site – it is SO TRUE!
Your “reviews” page has been very helpful lately… Craig and I are planning a trip to Chicago!!! I think the “bretzel” restaurant has made my list of must-do’s 🙂 And once I saw that you had KC restaurant reviews too, I added several places to my list when I visit there!
YAY CHICAGO!!!!! When are you planning on coming?
PB in smoothies is so good! I’m kind of avoiding it at the mo (serious trigger food!) but I love almond butter as a replacement 🙂
I need to try almond butter in my smoothies! And this jar of peanut butter is so dangerous in my fridge… haha I’ve done well so far but it’s been 3 days.
This smoothie combo (or something similar) was one of my favorites this past summer! The idea of having a smoothie right now with snow drifts taller than me outside my door, is rather undesirable lol. But let me tell you, as soon as the weather starts to warm up, smoothies to my face!! 😉
Throw in some spinach or some kale and it makes it even more delish!
The 20 something buzzfeed post was actually the most hilarious, it basically is my life!
Yummm that smoothie looks good! I love adding peanut butter to smoothies (although not to fruit ones — that idea kinda weirds me out still).
[…] reason I know you all clicked on today’s post, another new smoothie recipe! Last week I shared my Peanut Butter Banana Recovery Smoothie, but this week it’s a little less […]
