Richard Gere and Carey Lowell have split after 11 years of marriage. A source close to the couple has confirmed that after over a decade together, Gere and Lowell are throwing in the towel. “They’ll do everything possible to keep things amicable and put their child first,” a friend of the couple commented. Richard Gere himself made no comment on his divorce.
After an 11 year marriage, the two were living separately for a while. The 64 year old actor was staying in their Bedford, N.Y. residence, while 52 year old Lowell stared at their North Haven, N.Y. mansion.
Richard Gere and Carey Lowell dated for around seven years before marrying in 2002. Their son Homer was born in 2000. Gere is a follower of His Holiness the Dalai Llama and “is said to enjoy his solitude,” while his former wife Carey Lowell is much more of a socialite. People noted that the couple had been living separate lives. The last time the two were seen publically was last June, at a fundraiser in New York City.
In 1999, Gere was named People’s Sexiest Man Alive and Gere’s previous marriage was to supermodel Cindy Crawford. Carey Lowell has had two previous marriages, to John Stember fashion photographer, and to Griffin Dunne, actor-director with whom she has a 23 year old daughter, Hannah.
