Hey everyone, I hope you all had a great weekend! I had a pretty awesome weekend, lots of time with my friends, including a fun 5K! There may have also been some nut butter making thrown in there somewhere too…
On Sunday morning, Lindsay, Kelsey and I headed out to Oak Park to run the Race That’s Good For Life 5K! The race is put on by the Oak Park Runners Club, which Erin is an active member of, so we had to come out and support her race! (By the way – Erin ran her MARATHON on Saturday and rocked it!!! Congrats Erin!!!).
Anyone notice what shirt I’m wearing? After last week’s Thursday Thoughts and all your comments on how I needed to wear my animal shirts out in public, I thought I’d bring one out for the race!
So stylish…
Anyway, the race was pretty small, and separated into men and women. I really liked this because then it was even smaller! We ran through the neighborhoods in Oak Park and it was really beautiful and a very well organized race. We had nothing but good things to say about the 5K!
Lindsay was super excited! Haha
It was definitely not my best race ever, but I expected that since I haven’t actually been running much lately… The last mile was rough on me, I had a hard time keeping up and my stomach was seriously cramping. But, as Lindsay said, at least I know where I’m at now so I know what I need to do to work on my 5K PR!
My IT band/hip isn’t thrilled… there will be lots of foam rolling this week. Thankfully, Lindsay and Kelsey pushed me to the finish I came in seconds behind them at 26:22. Not shabby!
With all that being said, I’m glad we all decided to run the 5K and I had a lot of fun, plus we loved the carnations that they gave us at the end of the race! I highly recommend checking out this 5K next year if you live in the Chicago area, we all want to run it again!
Have you run a race recently?
What’s a fitness/physical goal that you’re working on?
Did you do anything with friends this weekend?
All photos in today’s post are courtesy of the lovely Kelsey.
Yay. You wore the shirt! 🙂
Pretty good time considering you haven’t been running much lately. Too fun that you got carnations at the end!
I loved the carnations, it was a great touch!
oooh checking in on you and your IT BAND too
how is it this morning?
Eh it’s alright… not fantastic but not horrendous. Definitely not running in the next couple of days.
That seems fast to me, especially considering that you’ve been injured! Good job!
Thanks, Emily! I guess I was disappointing because I’d hoped to PR this race back when I signed up for it a couple months ago.
That shirt is hilarious!
I haven’t been running much lately, but I’m playing around with the idea of doing a 10k in two months. Other than that, I don’t really have a lot of fitness goals right now – just trying to keep working out in a way that makes me happy!
a 10K might be fun, I like that distance!
The shirt really made the difference in this post.
I’m not big into signing up to races (only doing to Chi Marathon in Oct)
My current goal is to get my half mara time under 1:30 in the middle of full training! ugh
I spend a lot of my weekend with my littlest friend, my daughter 🙂
Aww I’m glad you had a good weekend with your daughter, and good luck on your half marathon!
Ahh congrats! I think that’s an awesome time, regardless of whether it’s your best or not. 🙂
A fitness/physical goal that I’m working on is giving myself enough rest that I DON’T get injured…I have a half in 3 weeks and being injured for that would not be fun!
Good luck on your half, and staying injury free!
What counts is that you finished! And wore that hilarious shirt!
Haha it was really all about the shirt
I wish I would have known about this race! I was in Oak Park this past weekend visiting my in-laws and would have loved to run it 🙂 That’s a great time for a 5K, great job!
Oh that would have been fun! I hope you had a good weekend though!
That. Shirt. You should get a medal just for wearing that.
Ahahaha you are so right.
SO much fun! Let’s do more 5K’s!!!
YES.
Yesterday was so much fun! I can’t wait to see what you can do after you start running pain-free!
Ahhh I can’t wait for that! Hopefully I won’t want to collapse during the last mile…
I haven’t done a 5k in so long, I need to do one! Way less stress than longer races.
I agree, especially fun themed ones!
HAHA. LOVE that shirt. so much
Thanks, I try to be stylish 😉
I’m so happy you guys came out and enjoyed it! Thanks for supporting us!
It was a really great race!
AH SO JEALOUS you ran the race in Oak Park, I grew up there! If that’s OPRF, that would have been my high school. Such a small world. Great job despite the pain, though. Lindsay’s right, now you have an idea of where you are with your injury!
I believe it was OPRF, how cool! Yea we were inside the high school (that’s me stretching on the cafeteria floor…).
great job with the race!!
our last race was the Disney Princess half marathon and had a blast with my sisters 🙂 not sure if I will do another race but you never know 😉
Oh I’ve always wanted to run a Disney race, especially that one!
I think that’s a great time!! Congrats! 🙂
Thanks, Kelly!
Well done Katie!! I did my first road race on Sunday night; the Samsung Night Run in Dublin. Started at 9pm! Great atmosphere. Body feeling it a bit now but I got through in 47:13 which I was delighted with to say the least!
Congrats on your first race! And 9pm?? I’ve never done a night race!
Awesome recap! 🙂 Looks like you had so much fun!
Anything with those two is fun! Thanks, Jemma!
