YAY!!!! It’s almost the weeeeeeekend!!!! Guess what happens this weekend?! MY 20 MILER! AHHH be afraid! I’m not so much afraid of the 20 miles, I’m afraid of some injury popping up! It will actually be a lot of fun, it’s called the Newton 20 Miler, put on by the Chicago Area Runners Association. I get to do it for free since I’m in their training program, but anyone can register. This way people training on their own don’t have to run 20 miles alone and they can practice for the race.
They have a whole course set up along the lakefront, we start pretty far north and then run 20 miles south. Buses pick us up at the end and take us back to the start. Lol I don’t even want to know where we end. 20 miles south on the lakefront is faaaar. I’m afraid I’ll end up in Indiana.
Anyway, it’s not the weekend yet, so on to Thursday Thoughts!
1. You know your class’s reading assignments are too long and complicated when you have to take a photo of them rather than just writing them down… Thanks, professor.
2. This is literally one of the funniest blog posts I’ve ever read. Tina mentioned it in her post Monday so I decided to read it. I love this woman and I hope I have a marriage with this kind of humor. Seriously. Read it. You will die laughing.
3. This happened way too often when I was home for the holidays last winter… (from when I went gluten free tumblr…).
WHEN MY MOM ASKS WHY THE FROSTING IS MISSING FROM THE CAKE
4. Need some amazingly delicious and healthy meal ideas? Check out my friend Lauren’s Good Eats Pinterest board. It’s amazing. Great pinning, Lauren! (p.s. you are now famous.)
5. I ran 10 miles yesterday!!! WHAT WHAT! So far so good, I’m back on the training plan. Now everyone go knock on wood. Just in case.
6 My friend found this shot glass in Goodwill while searching for a top for her Halloween costume (yes, she plans ahead and, yes, she found an amazing sequined top). Obviously she had to get it for me because (1) I loved Vegas when we went for her 21st and (2) hello. She found a shot glass in Goodwill with my name on it. Fate.
7. There’s a cute guy across the Starbucks from me where I’m typing this right now. He’s horribly distracting. Just FYI.
8. I made this the other day and it was fantastic:
Raspberry Mousse
Ingredients:
1/2 cup cottage cheese
splash of milk
1 packet stevia
1/4 cup fresh raspberries
Directions: Blend together until cottage cheese is “whipped” and everything is well mixed. About a minute. Enjoy.
9. I loved this post on weight Rachel wrote yesterday (READ IT. I know, I’m demanding today). I also loved reading the comments. What do you think about the stigma against asking people how much they weigh? Does it make us put to much emphasis or shame in the number?
10. I would like to thank the Jewish faith for my day off on Monday. Rosh Hashanah = no class for me. It also means a WHOLE day of fun with this adorable face because I am PUPPY-SITTING this weekend!!!
Omg another cute guy just walked in. WHY DON’T I LIVE IN THIS NEIGHBORHOOD!
How long can I call Molly a puppy? She’s over a year now. Maybe when she’s 10?
Have you ever made a recipe that you pinned?
That’s cool that the association allows others to run, I can’t imagine running 20 miles by myself! Good luck!! And happy puppy-sitting 🙂
Yea it’s great for people who are training on their own!
Hahaha I love how you called it “strawberry mousse” when it’s made with raspberries! 😉 Either way it looks good though!
Also that’s so exciting about your 20 miler this weekend! That’ll be nice to be able to run it with a group!
Oops.
Aaaaaand I fixed it. Wow, no idea where my brain was. Thanks!!!
Hey Katie! I’m usually one of those followers who read your blog everyday but never comment. That is until more recently, I’ve started getting the commenting bug left and right with my favorite bloggers (like you, Caitlin at HTP, Molly at HSC, and Kath at KERF) 🙂
Anyways, I just wanted to say that my older dog is still a “puppy” to me. She’s a 10.5 year old chihuahua and I still call her “puppy” all the time…. despite the fact that she’s got a 10 week old “little sister” now who truly is a puppy. It’s more of a term of endearment at this point since they’re essentially my “kids”. :p So I think it’s perfectly ok for you to call Molly a puppy for a long time to come! 🙂 (This might sound absolutely ridiculous but besides them answering to their “given names”, Lola and Cali, as well as answering to Puppy, they also answer to Bubba which derived from me calling them “Baby”, yes I can admit that I’m one of those crazy pet parents :p)
Hope you have an excellent day!
Caitlin
Haha my dog growing up would answer to “princess” because that’s what I wanted to call her when I was little! Her real name was Murphy!
You were one of the first things I thought about this morning! Okay. Not creepy promise. This is why I thought of you. I was ‘flirting with injury’ last spring and couldn’t figure out why my legs hated me. I went to my local running store to vent and the brillant man at the store suggested I foam roll BEFORE I run. I’ve been foam rolling before I run ever since and have been feeling good (knock on wood). So that is why I thought of you… because I was foam rolling right away before my run : )
Hahahahahaha that did sound creepy at first! But I did always wonder that, if it was helpful to foam roll before running. I’ll be doing that now!
HAHA. Did you go talk to the guys? Wink at them? 😉
I agree-that is tough reading stuff if you must take a picture of it. Oh the joys of having a camera on the phone! I totally was not cool in college (and they didn’t have ’em them) with a phone/camera. Rock on!
Haha it was much easier than writing it all down!
Bahahahaha so glad you linked to The Bloggess. I had read that post before, but I was literally in tears reading it again. She’s so stinkin funny!
A TON of people I work with are Jewish: literally 80% of the office won’t be here on Monday. I’m not Jewish, so I technically don’t have the day off…but chances of me staying a full 8 hours even if I’ve finished my work because it feels like what I’m “supposed” to do are slim. Plus I’m working seven hours on Saturday when I normally don’t work weekends at all, so I think that makes up for it.
Haha I certainly wouldn’t stay the whole time either!
You are giving me inspiration to keep at it with the running 🙂
hahahhaha reading this post totally put a smile on my face! cute guys FTW 😉
i’m going to check out those links – they look like good reads!
They really were! I hope you like them!
They’re always puppies 🙂
I haven’t done the CARA Ready to Run 20 Miler but I did the one in Busse Woods in 2010 for my first marathon. I really liked being out there with other people knowing we all basically had the same goal!
I’ve made A LOT of recipes off Pinterest. Some turn out okay, others no so much.
I didn’t even know the Busse Woods one existed until this morning!
OMG, love the chicken post. It was exaclty what I needed to try to get through this work day! LOL. I’ve seen cottage cheese show up in lots of recipes but I’m always to afraid to try it. It just doesn’t seem right… Maybe one day I’ll be brave and give it a whirl.
Haha I thought it would be weird too, but it’s worth trying! I like it just plain too, with cinnamon and vanilla flavoring!
I am kind of jealous you will have a bunch of people to run that 20 miler with. It will make it fly by! I love the one about frosting, aka my life with being celiac. I eat the part I can eat. haha.
Hahaha I practically expect people to give me their icing, it’s only fair, right?
My fiance’s family still calls their 14 year old English pointer a puppy!
Good luck with the 20-miler this weekend! I’m running my 20-miler solo tomorrow; kinda wish I signed up for the Newton Ready to Run. It would be great practice with the water stations and running with so many other people.
Haha 14 years old seems beyond puppy! Thanks, and good luck on your run! I’m sure it will be fine!
On the “weighty” issue — I find that people ask me my weight or comment about my size really often. (More often it’s just a comment about my size – as someone who has suffered from a very deep ED, and is 30lb heavier now than my lowest weight, I’m pretty sensitive about it and find this extremely off-putting …
On that note — LOVE that you mentioned the guys!! Cute-guy sightings always make my day better! 🙂
The raspberry mousse looks fab! I might give it a shot using soft tofu instead of cottage cheese though — sub out the lactose (which I’m intolerant to) for soy (which you’re intolerant to)? I think it might just work!
I should probably clarify — I’m not terrible about offering up the number that is my weight, I just don’t like being asked point blank, but the off-hand comments are really the worst.
Lol yes, switch it to make it work for you! And no, I can’t have soy. I’m surprised people ask you your weight, no one asks me!
I’ve heard Starbucks is a pretty great place to meet the love of your life. The Fitnessista’s story comes to mind 😉 I’m hoping maybe that’ll happen to me….? 😉
Haha I’d meet him anywhere, as long as it’s soon! Lol or a date would work too.
good luck on your 20 miler! thanks for the new board to follow for some yummy recipes! I love pinterst! (:
A 20 mile training run is more for mental confidence than anything else. If you’ve trained to the point of having to run a 20 miler, your body is prepared; it’s just your mind that needs to catch up. Good luck!
I agree, I learned it was purely mental when I was injured and everyone told me that as long as I’ve run 18 I’m good. I hope my mind can handle it!
Cute guys = horribly distracting. I was walking down the street and an extremely attractive individual stopped me to tell me of some random event happening this weekend. I just kept nodding and hoping he would keep talking so I would have an excuse to stare at him for a little while. :-p
And tomorrow’s post is going to be all about how you approached said guy and went on a date with him, right?
I wish…
20 miles!! WOAH you go girl. That raspberry mouse looks pretty fabulous. Love the shot glass too 🙂
