Thursday Thoughts

I GO TO CHARLESTON TODAY!!!! Okay, okay, I go to Charleston tonight, and arrive juuuuust before midnight. Huge props to my friend’s boyfriend for picking me up… I’m pretty pumped about this weekend: time with my friend Amy Lee (who I’m staying with) AND celebrating Meredith’s wedding with a bunch of other friends! I’ll only be there 3 days, but I think it will be a good time!

Anyway, while I’m getting excited about my trip, you get to hear all the random thoughts going through my mind this week:

1. Thanks Daily Mile…

2. In Chicago we have what’s called the ChrisKindelMarket, which is a German American holiday marketplace filled with food, drinks, candies, and tons of ornaments and wooden figures. I’d never been but had a chance to walk around it this week. I’m definitely going back and getting some candied nuts and mulled wine (in a souvenir tiny boot mug, don’t pretend you aren’t jealous).

3. Why was it so pleasant to walk around ChrisKindelMarket? It’s been unseasonably warm here!

4. Chicago has really been growing on me this year. I miiiiiight be staying past law school. We’ll see.

5. This new drawing hobby has gotten out of hand. I need to study more…

6. I bought a little girls’ XL raincoat on sale when I was home over Thanksgiving and it came in very handy this week. Yes, I’m frugal.

7. I found out I passed the MPRE (national legal ethics exam required to become a lawyer) and here was my family’s amusing reaction (to decipher, Pamela = Mom, Harrison & Mason = brothers).

I think do what your mother tells you is a good way too.

8. I am really good at finding other things to do instead of writing my paper. Which is why I need to finish this post now. Have a great weekend!

What’s a holiday tradition that your town has?

Do you have group texts with your family?

Do you like where you live? Ever think about moving?

  1. i think christkindlmarket might be one of my favorite christmas things in chicago. washington dc has NOTHING on christmas in chicago. i was struck by that the first year i moved here but i definitely notice it more and more. i think that’s why i’ve been having a harder time getting in the christmas spirit the past few years. the second my plane touches down in chicago, i swear i’m filled with holiday cheer! and i’d love it if you stayed – i want to always have a blogging/running friend in town when i come home!

    • That’s so weird that they’d have nothing Christmasy! Maybe they’re all trying to be politically correct? When do you get here?

    • Ahh! Everyone I’ve talked to will be out of town this weekend! Good thing Amy Lee is here.. haha or I would have no where to stay!

  2. Hehe the dog drawing is super cute!

I just moved to my town for school a few months ago…while I do like it, the boyfriend and I will probably only stay here until I’m done school. He’s a teacher, and the teaching opportunities here are less than dismal. And I wouldn’t mind going somewhere completely new for both of us!

    • Definitely not the best teaching situation, and I LOVE moving new places, I just don’t have anywhere in particular calling my name!

  3. Woohoo!! Congrats on passing your exam 🙂 That’s wonderful! And I am super jealous of your art skills! I’ve always wanted to be able to draw like that haha…I also wish I was going to Charleston with you today…definitely one of my favorite places to visit and explore 🙂

  4. Chicago really is such a cool city. It’s about a 4 hour drive from me, so I don’t get there a lot, but we’ve stayed the weekend in the past a couple times & it’s been fun. I’d love to live there someday.
Eh, where I live is ok… cold (we just moved back to WI after almost 8 years in FL). Trying to adjust to the climate change still… missing the FL sunshine.

Congrats on the exam & have a GREAT time in Charleston!! 🙂

  5. Hahahaha! Love the text convo! we do that, but it isn’t quite as interactive unfortunately. The ChrisKindel Market is so cute! I went last year when it was actually cold and snowy I think and it was really nice. It reminded me of a similar one in Montreux in Switzerland that I used to visit. Lots of the same stuff and style. Eat the nuts. Drink the wine. They are the best things there in my humble opinion. Regarding the last question: I always move. Chicago is the first place I’ve stayed longer by choice. I usually move after 6 months, but now I’ve been here over a year, crazy. I’m looking to move anyway (ha!) out to Berkeley in the summer. Chicago summers are awfully wonderful so we’ll see what actually happens. Where would you move to if you left chi?

  6. I love the christkindlmarket market! Chicago is so pretty this time of year!
I am constantly thinking about where I am going to live after school! I always thought that I wanted to stay here in Chicago, but I don’t know if I want to raise my family here. I really want to move to Portland, Oregon! I have until August to decide!

Have a great time in Charleston!

    • Well you can always stay here a couple years and then move, that’s what I’ve been thinking. Realizing that definitely took the pressure and anxiety off of finding somewhere to move immediately!

  7. I live in Northern Ky, close to Cincinnati. It’s pretty boring here. I think about moving sometimes but then all my family is here. I dunno though?!?! Every time we travel my husband wants to move wherever we go 🙂

  8. Congrats on the passing the exam! 🙂
I moved to Chicago, just because I have always wanted to and I am happy with my decision. it is such a great city – you should stay!

In my hometown of Beaufort, SC every year when the Christmas Tree place is being setting up they have a HUGE blow up snowman in front of the tree “farm.” He is massive like three stories tall! He is known around town as Frosty and most people go there to get a tree.

  9. I work near that market and oddly have never really taken the time to walk through. Let me know if you’d ever like to go! It’d be nice to finally meet. 😉

  10. I wasn’t a huge fan of where I live until I moved away…now I appreciate it so much more that I’m back! There are loads of Christmas markets and fairs on over Christmas, I love them all! You pick up such cute handcrafted unique gifts! Totally love the blue raincoat – I’m always picking up large kids items, bargain central!

    • I think I would LOVE to live in Ireland, well at least visit! Haha I guess I wouldn’t know since I’ve never been to Europe! But my brother and sister-in-law said Ireland was their favorite when they backpacked through Ireland, England, France and Italy!

  11. The mini boot is amazing. I took my friend the other week and we had a fabulous time walking around the market. My hometown doesn’t do anything particularly special, so I love going to big cities and seeing all the cheer.

I expected to like Chicago, but now I really love it. We’re here for two years, but we would both like to stay.

My mom and I text daily. We love MMS.

    • Haha good to know I’m not the only one with family texts. And I’m going to have to convince you and Kelsey to go down there with me one evening, you both live close enough to walk!
