Thursday Thoughts

Hey all! Happy Thursday! You know the drill – another week of Thursday Thoughts!

1. This weekend is the CHICAGO MARATHON!!! Although I’m not running it this year, I’m still so excited for the race and for everyone who is running. I’ll be volunteering at Aid Station #13 at mile 18 for anyone who is running – let me know to cheer you on!

2. I’ve been wanting to go to World Market for ages to find some new bowls. I was down that way on Monday for a doctor’s appointment so I walked over to check it out and was SUPER tempted to purchase this bowl:

Amazingness.

3. Sadly I went the common sense route and purchased a big mug (good as a small bowl) and this bowl:

4. Job hunting sucks this week. I’m just gonna say it. Not finding a lot of jobs to apply to, no interviews yet, no nothing. I feel very stuck and I’m not enjoying it.

5. On a happier note, I attended a pre-membership meeting at the Junior League of Chicago on Monday evening. I’m really excited about joining the organization and all the volunteer and social aspects of being a member. Sadly, you have to go through a 6 month membership program and the next one doesn’t begin until January!

6. I’m publishing this post from a coffee shop because my internet randomly stopped working yesterday. I spent 45 minutes on the phone with customer service only to find out that they will send someone out today sometime between 8am and 12:30pm. Annoying, yes, but what if I had a job?? What does everyone else do? How is this efficient? Can you tell I’m frustrated?

7. Yesterday I wrote out my Purely Fit workout on a notecard to take to the gym. After finishing, I wrote down my time and left the card in the gym as a challenge to anyone who found it. I hope someone tried it!

8. I’m not having the best week and I can’t seem to shake this bad mood. Any suggestions? I need an attitude adjustment.

What an UPBEAT post! Haha. Here’s hoping to a better outlook today!

Have you ever watched someone else at the gym and stolen their workout moves?

Are you a part of any volunteer organizations?

Do you all your dishes match or do you have some random bowls or plates?

  1. when we moved I joined a group called RUN FOR A BETTER OAKLAND.
we work with kids from lower socio economic backgrounds encouraging them to run. which, I know, is funny since I dont really run 😉

  2. I’m pretty sure I know how you’re feeling. I have Jordan, but he works 12-14 hour days, leaving me by myself most of the time. Job searching is so tough and humbling! I was told by my career center that it can take up to 6 months to find something. Not super encouraging, but it made me feel more normal. We have Monday to look forward to!

  3. I’m sorry your having job searching frustrations and your week is just less than stellar 🙁 Though I think it’s better to get it out, and the blog is a perfect place to do so! Although I am of course in a different situation than you as far as careers and such, I have my share of bad weeks related to such circumstances. All I can say is that, even if changes do not occur immediately, your day/week/month does get better for other reasons. It’s so important for me to remember such a fact when my mood is hovering around crap territory.
Do a little something that adds pleasure to your life Katie, and things will turn around in time 🙂

  4. Not every post can always be unicorns jumping on rainbows. Everybody has tough hours/days/weeks and then you have good ones. Get out the bad and vent it to feel better! 🙂 My suggestion would be watch videos of puppies and kittens.

I love the elephant bowl. And I like that you left that challenge at the gym. I’d totally be like “who the hell does she think SHE is” and try it! LOL

  5. Sorry to hear that the job search has been frustrating! I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you that something amazing comes your way. That elephant bowl is awesome! Right now most of my dishes match, but I need to go hunting for some unique ones.

  6. I’m sort of in love with that elephant bowl – how adorable!
You’ll be able to make it through and we can do it together! I’ve had a trying week with all of my classes (20 credits to be exact) and I am so looking forward to the weekend ahead of me. I’m planning to take time away from my desk and focus on getting back to normal.

  7. I love pretty kitchenware! It’s one of my (many) shopping obsessions.
I’ve been having a very similar week. Actually, weeks. Months even. But I received some good new yesterday and I spent time with two of my best friends drinking wine and eating chocolate last night and that really, really helped my mood. Good friends always seem to do that.
    Best of luck!

    • Oh good, I’m glad things turned around yesterday! I think that’s part of my problem – all my friends have been busy and I’ve been alone for way too long!

  8. Wait I love that idea with your index card – I would totally give it a try if I found it 🙂
On the job front, not much else to say but I hope something works it’s way out soon!

  9. I hear you on the job hunting front. It’s exhausting to put in all that effort and then not even get a response from potential employers.

I started volunteering with the Junior League of Calgary in September and so far I’ve really been enjoying. There’s some awesome ladies and they do so many good things for the community.

  10. I’m in the NYC Junior League – have been since I moved here. You will love it! As far as people coming to fix things during working hours, I would usually work from home. Most companies don’t mind it. Or sometimes the cable companies can come on a weekend if you ask. They always just offer the first available time. Hope your mood lifts, I’m sure it will!

  11. I love that you’re real though! I am so sorry about the frustrating job search–it IS frustrating and that is all there is to it.

BUT, the sunshine will come. It always does, I promise! 🙂 Keep your chin up, do something that makes you happy! Remember, God/the universe/whatever you want to call it knows what is best, and is just making sure that you get what is BEST for you. Sometimes that comes with time & a little patience. It sucks, but in the end you’ll be grateful you didn’t settle or give up. <3

    HUGS!!!

  12. I’m excited you went to the Junior League info session! Let me know if you have any questions about the Chicago Junior League or if after joining you’d like a buddy to come along to any events (that was kind of nerve-wracking for me when I didn’t know anyone).

    • Haha yea, a few girls looked surprised that I came to the info session alone – it is nerve wracking! I can’t wait to get started!!!

  13. It’s OK to feel peed off! Job hunting sucks, I am kind of there myself and know how down it can make you feel, it’s the uncertainty! Keep plugging at it, you’ll get there :):) Imaging how good writing that ‘Igottajob!’ blog post will feel!

  14. love that you challenged others to beat your workout 🙂 love it!
and sorry about job hunting, right out of college for us it took forever to find one, and not only find a job but one we liked, it’s hard. hang in there! something great will come along 😉
    HUGS

  15. I got that elephant bowl/mug for my sister last Christmas! She’s an elephant fanatic so it was a must have.
I really hope your week gets better, Katie! Keep your chin up. Something will come along when you least expect it. Sending good vibes and prayers our way!

    • Haha YES! You’re the second person who says they’ve bought the elephant bowl! I might have to go back and get it… Thanks for the prayers!

  16. Spring time here in Australia and I’ve started my annual fitness regime. Hopefully it will last longer than a couple of weeks. I keep searching for inspiration. I go through similar down days at times. This is perfectly normal, in my opinion, as long as the good days outnumber the bad ones we are ahead:)

  17. Bake cookies!!! Then give them away. It always cheers me up. Not sure why. If I bake cookies and go for a run and do something nice for someone else and I still feel like crap, I just go back to bed and try again the next day. 😉 Love you!!
