Hey everyone! I hope you’re all having a good week! Mine is going alright so far, just a couple busy days yesterday and today getting me up early and home late! Haha which I guess is weird for the unemployed but pretty normal for most of you! Anyway, let’s get on to this week’s Thursday Thoughts!
1. It’s been so rainy lately that I haven’t felt like I’ve really been able to appreciate Fall. We got a short reprieve from the weather on Monday and I ended up walking a ways. It was a great reminder to just look up (away from my phone…) and enjoy the views!
2. My mother told me I needed to buy some throw pillows for my couch. Do you think these that I found at Target are what she was thinking?
3. Lindsay and I signed up for the Rudolph Ramble 8K in December! I am mostly excited because it’s in Lincoln Park, which means it’s really close for me! I’ve also never run an 8K (neither has Linds), so we’re looking forward to an automatic PR!
4. I had to snip this on my computer screen because I found it really amusing. It asks me to “Please Select a Language” except that it lists countries and not languages… Haha apparently United States is a language!
5. Has anyone heard of the Documentary “Blackfish?” I saw a commercial for it while I was in the gym and asked my brother to DVR it for me. I watched a little over half of it on Tuesday (with Molly) and I can’t wait to watch the rest. Definitely not a happy go lucky whale documentary, but I thought it was fascinating and something people need to know about. Poor whales, they are just not meant to be kept in tanks and separated from their families.
I think it scared Molly a bit (or she just doesn’t know what personal space is) because she sat on me the whole time…
6. When I got home last night I had a memo from my building about Christmas trees. I guess being in a much larger building, there are people who bring in real trees for the holidays. Haha I’d never considered it, mostly because I always had finals before Christmas and then I went home! I still don’t think I’d get a tree this year though, but maybe some other decorations?
7. Last week, for my birthday, I showed you all a few old photos that I found. Here’s another! Yep, that’s me, pulling the (blue???) toilet paper down. And yes, I am completely bald. When I say my hair grows slowly, it’s no joke! I had no hair until well into my second year of life and even as I got older it was always super short!
I have two older cousins and they always had the longest hair.
It was my dream in life to have long hair… only took about 18 years to get there. HA now that I look at this picture I think Allie is thinking: geez, her hair is so short. poor thing.
Do you decorate for the holidays wherever you live?
What did your hair look like as a kid?
Do leaves change colors for Fall where you live?
haha that’s really funny… i always had a lot of long hair actually… so did my sister but her daughter has super short hair and was bald (but still cute!) for the longest time!
Haha poor girl! Hopefully it grows in soon, I know how it feels!
LAUGHED OUT LOUD at the throw pillows.
THOSE are my style 🙂
Haha I considered it, but I was afraid my mother would refuse to pay for them!
You mean you don’t speak “United States”? HAHA – too funny!
We always decorate for Christmas (my fave holiday) but not necessarily other holidays. The leaves change colors here and I love watching the foliage change!
When I was a kid, my hair was much lighter, and longer up until around middle school. Then I never let it grow past my shoulders.
I guess my school just didn’t offer “United States” as a language!
I speak really fluent United States. I must have a gift with languages or something.
You were the cutest bald little babe! Simply adorable. Happy almost Friday <3.
Haha maybe I should go back to the bald look!
We always go all out for the holidays, but I also live in the suburbs so it is a little easier for me! 🙂 we do the tree, lights, decor! It all goes up at my house ha! I just love Christmas decorations so much!
I’m totally decorating when I have a house! It just seems silly when it’s only me and I don’t have much space
I’m pretty sure I didn’t get my first haircut until I was like 2 1/2…I was a bald baby, for sure. Which is kind of funny, because I spent most of elementary school with it down to my waist.
We have a small (about 2 foot)fake tree that we set up for Christmas, plus I put out a few decorations – my parents go all out, so I just go over there if I need some holiday spirit 😉
oh I wish mine had grown that quickly after baby stage!
I have been debating on trees, and am seriously considering just buying a fake one from CostCo. No pine needles to pick up (and get the dog to avoid eating) and I can re use it every year. We’ll see…
My sister was bald FOREVER, too. Like until 2 or 3. We always joke with her that she is keeping her hair super long as an adult to make up for her years of baldness. 😉
the fake/real tree debate is such a tough one! My family got real all through my childhood, then bought a fake one that they used for several years. Then my mother realized she hated putting up and down the fake tree so much (ours was a huge hassle) that she went back to real!
I didn’t grow hair until I was about two either. I always had shorter shoulder-length hair in high school and college and only started to grow it longer in the last few years. My hair takes FOREVER to grow. I can go 6 months in between haircuts and it only grows about an inch. Crazy.
Me too! Ugh, so not fair! Guess it saves money?
The Rudolph Ramble is a fun race! I did it my first year here. Some people even dress up! It’s the only 8K I’ve done, but its a nice distance.
I’ve seen the preview for Blackfish and know about it, but I don’t know if I can watch it… It looks so sad. It is certainly brining attention to an important issue though, which is good. Lots of people have been talking about it.
Christmas is my absolute favorite holiday so I definitely decorate! Even in my small college dorm room I had to hang up Christmas lights. I will probably be here again this Christmas so will likely be getting a tree. Pinterest has some cute ideas for holiday decorations that don’t involve a tree that might be worth a look!
It’s sad but I think it’s important to watch sad things sometimes, the world is very rarely rainbows and sunshine! And I’ll take a look at pinterest for some ideas, thanks!
I like hearing baby hair stories .. I’m very fair-skinned, and have long, blonde hair … but when I was born it was JET black and incredibly frizzy! My parents always tied a bonnet on me because it looked so funny and out of control! But when I was 1 or so, it all fell out and came back in blonde … so strange!
That is so weird that your hair was so dark!
I was born with a full head of black hair…my mom gave me my first haircut when I was only a week old. Crazy.
I think we’re going to buy a fake tree this year to “train” Sonic with. We’ll also need some plastic ornaments so he won’t knock them down and shatter them.
Michaels had a ton of plastic ornaments! Hopefully sonic can handle it… Molly would always have glitter on her nose from sniffing the ornaments!
I was also hairless for most of my life. I went from a bald infant to a bald toddler to a bald child and then I had a bowl cut until elementary school, haha!
oh the bowl cut! Haha such a great 90s look.
Haha – you were the cutest little girl! My sister’s hair also didn’t grow in until she was about two. I had tons of hair by that point. It’s so funny how everyone grows hair differently!
That is funny that you both had such different experiences!
Did you end up finding any throw pillows?! I love them, but they seem to be so pricey! If you find any nice ones for an affordable price, let me know! 😉
Target had some that were between $16 and $25 but I didn’t buy any because I wasn’t sure on color. I’m also scouting out Home Goods, TJMaxx and Marshalls, they always have pillows that are much less expensive!
Eddie wanted to watch Blackfish! Good to know you’re enjoying it 🙂
Definitely watch it!
HAHAH. Yep, those are the throw pillows your mom envisioned!
I’ve never heard of an 8K RACe before? That’s cool!
Haha exactly what she wanted! And I’ve never run one, but we have a pretty big one here in Chicago for St. Patrick’s day. That’s the only way I’d even heard of the distance as a race!
I was born with hair so I guess I can’t relate to the whole being bald part. Haha. But I had incredibly short, curly hair up until about kindergarten when I decided to grow it out long and straight. Throw in a few times where I got it cut short again… I just prefer long hair overall! And I love your hair 🙂
The leaves do change color where I live and I couldn’t imagine it any other way! That’s crazy talk.
Aw thanks! And I agree – I love the changing leaves! When I lived in Charleston the leaves didn’t change or start falling until around January and it didn’t last long!
I’d be all over those pillows! Ha!
I saw Blackfish the other night and watched it twice! Wow. Riveting. And disturbing. We were in Alaska over the summer and a naturalist on the trip had the same things to say about Orcas. So sad.
I agree, it’s so sad. I’d LOVE to take a trip to Alaska, I’ve never been whale watching! Okay, actually I’ve been once in Boston when I was 16 but it was so foggy we couldn’t see a thing!
So jealous of the beautiful fall leaves. I’ve seen leaves change colors one day of my entire life. Unfortunately, Florida never gets the autumn memo! It’s on my bucket list to lives somewhere I can experience all four season changes.
P.S. I approve of the hot pink throw pillows. Pink is always the choice to make!
Haha FL definitely doesn’t get the fall memo – pros and cons to living there!
I watched Blackfish the other night and I LOVED IT. I want to boycott Sea World and free the wales. Cannot wait to chat with you about it when I see you.
Omg yes, let’s go free the whales! Like in Free Willy!
I watched Blackfish last weekend and it was so interesting and definitely an eye opener. I will not support Sea World that is for sure!
Me neither! I knew it wasn’t great, but I had no idea about some of the conditions and the separation of families!
