Hey everyone! I hope you’re all having a great weekend! Since today is Sunday, it’s time to take a look at last week’s workouts, and see what I have coming up for the next week. I’m excited for next Friday because it marks the beginning of my very last Spring Break!!! Haha I can’t believe I still get spring break at 25. Works for me. I also wanted to do a quick restaurant review/recap of my breakfast with Cate at Meli Café!
Here’s a look at how I did last week:
Sunday – Total Strength class (I might do yoga instead since I missed a rest day this past week, but I feel good so we’ll see!)
Monday – 2.5 mile run + JM Videos (I did Ripped in 30 level 1 and Six Week Six Pack level 1)
Tuesday – Zumba or Rest I ended up going to half a zumba class and leaving… I felt SO AWFUL but I had a lot of pent up energy that needed to get out and this class seemed to be some sort of “zumba light” catered toward the older crowd in the room, so I left and got in some great sprints for 2 miles!
Wednesday – 2.5 mile run + Jillian Michaels video it had just snowed 8 inches the night before, so I ran on the treadmill and then did upper body weights in the gym
Thursday – Zumba
Friday – Total Strength Class REST DAY
Saturday – PUNK THE MONK!!!! 3.25 miles (more on that in another post)
And here is what I have coming up for workouts this week:
Sunday – Total Strength class
Monday – 2 mile run + JM Video
Tuesday – REST or JM Videos
Wednesday – 3 mile run + Jillian Michaels video
Thursday – Zumba
Friday – REST or Weights in Gym (depends on if I rest Tuesday, and how much time I have before traveling)
Saturday – 4 mile run (maybe 5? We’ll see how my knees feel)
On Thursday morning, I met the lovely Cate for an early breakfast before my Zumba class! I let her pick, and she decided on Meli Café in the River North area. They had quite an extensive breakfast menu, starting with juices and smoothies, then going to eggs about a million ways, pancakes, waffles, crepes and french toast. Cate even told me that Meli’s is one of only THREE restaurants in all of Chicago to use pure maple syrup. I was really surprised that only three restaurants did that!
They also had a Gluten Free & Vegan menu, however, I was disappointed to see that there was one GF item and the rest were vegan. Haha and the gluten free item confused both of us:
Are the pancakes made with polenta and rice flour, or are these separate things? Either way, I wasn’t sure I wanted to find out…
Since I was heading to Zumba after breakfast, I wanted to keep it light. I ordered their oven baked veggie omelet, but got it egg whites only and then asked if they’d add avocado. When it came out I was surprised how big and fluffy it was!
I ate most of the omelet and some potatoes and it was pretty good. I’d definitely go back to Meli’s in the future since they had such a big menu and so many options. It was also great to have a real chance to catch up with Cate, we really need to do this more often!

That omelet looks fantastic! My favorite breakfast dishes to order out used to be pancakes because I didn’t know how to make them at home. Now on the rare occurrences I eat breakfast out I like to go with big egg white scrambles or waffles
I can’t remember the last time I had waffles – that’s a good choice!
looks like they had GF ingredients just not a dedicated GF kitchen. Bad for celiacs. One item is better than none though, yes?

Ahh the omelet looks like pure perfection! I am loving those big hunks of avocado I see…. and yeah that particular menu item is a bit confusing! When I was younger I would ALWAYS order a big, fluffy belgium waffle and wouldn’t think twice when I smeared butter and syrup all over that bad boy. Gahh those were the days :-/
Now I order oatmeal or eggwhite omelets like you, fruit and yogurt and granola.. something like that and I always enjoy it!
I was the same – I’d always order the french toast, go all out with toppings, and finish the whole thing!
The omelet looks incredible! Definitely one to try recreating at home, don’t you think? I’m not a fan of going out for breakfast . . . I’d prefer to go out for dinner! 🙂
I’m sure it would be easy to re-create! Although they bake their omelets in an oven, I’ve never tried that before!
LA Marathon in one week! Definitely don’t make it out to breakfast on a weekday, nothing is open yet when I leave at 6am. Love the work-out plan, it seriously helps to schedule it!

They omelette is monstrous!! It looks so good! I love it when restaurants have healthy things on the menu, I have never been a fan of greasy egg and bacon breakfasts.
Yea I’m not a fan of the greasy breakfasts either, they always upset my stomach!
Meli Cafe is hands down my favorite brunch spot in Chicago. I keep making the treck down there because it has so many options and everything is so delicious. Don’t be scared of their pancakes – I’ve tried their cornmeal ones (as well as their multi-grain) and they are so, so good. I order an omelet and then instead of toast I do a side order of pancakes – best of both worlds!
My favorite breakfast to order out is an omelet OR recently, I had the most fabulous Caribbean French Toast (French Toast dipped in shredded coconut) which was the most delicious thing ever!
I love to get omelets too!! But if want something sweet I love getting some healthy whole wheat pancakes with blueberries on top! P.S. That omelet looks so yummy!!!
Waffles! I’m more of a weekend brunch person. I am running the Get Lucky Half on Saturday!
Of course I love breakfast! 🙂 So many places here in Chicago -we will definitely plan another breakfast get together soon.
It’s weird, but even though breakfast is (easily) my favorite meal of the day, I hate eating out for breakfast! I guess I just love the breakfasts I make too much? 😉
I have been on a huge smoothie kick lately for breakfast. On Sundays I can’t resist pancakes either. Guilty pleasure for sure.
