What’s in My Make Up Bag?

Well, hello there!

Today Peace Love & Oats is going to take a spin in another direction… I often talk about running, exercising, food, randomness, my personal life and my thoughts, but I rarely mention looks or fashion. But, you all wanted to know more about me and my life, and this is something that’s a part of almost every day, so why not?

warhol makeup

I definitely do NOT consider myself someone you should come to on make up advice. I didn’t wear any on a regular basis until probably senior year of high school, and never wore mascara until college; I thought it looked ridiculous on me since my eyelashes are blonde…

But, for anyone looking for a quick, simple make-up application for those of us who are… challenged, this is the place for you.

When I was a freshman in college I got a consultation with Bobbi Brown and used their corrector/concealer throughout college, along with Cover Girl powder foundation and Cover Girl mascara. Although this worked for me, I knew I could do better. I heard a lot of good things about Bare Minerals, from friends, articles, etc. so I decided to check it out when I was in the mall with Kelsey and Sierra (both fans of Bare Minerals).

Are you ready to dive in?

And yes, I spent way too much time on Pic Monkey messing with these photos. Best way to spend a Saturday morning.

In order of use:

1. Prime Time Original Foundation Primer

2. Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer and Corrector

3. Bobbi Brown Concealer Brush

4. bareMinerals READY SPF 20 Foundation

5. Warmth All-Over Face Color

6. Mineral Veil finishing powder

7. Full Flawless Face Brush

8. Flawless Application Face Brush

9. Cover Girl Lash Blast Volume Mascara

When I got my new Bare Minerals make-up, I bought their starter kit because it was a great deal – it came with everything you see above, including 3 brushes, for only $64.

I was skeptical when she pulled out this primer, but when I put it on my face it felt like silk. Seriously. This stuff is no joke. I will be buying more when this runs out.

After my primer, I put on my corrector and concealer. Under the eyes and on any blemishes I might have. I chose to keep using my Bobbi Brown stuff because, well, it was expensive. I wanted to use it up before getting anything else.

Next, it’s back to Bare Minerals! First you put on the basic foundation, then the “warmth” color, and finish it off with the mineral veil.

When I saw the warmth color I thought the woman was crazy. Is she blind?? I’m not that dark. But, once she put it on it added just a bit of color to my face but wasn’t very noticeable, I approved. Still not sure if the mineral veil does much… at least not for a girl on a budget. We’ll see if I buy more of that.

Finally, my go-to mascara from Cover Girl. I always mean to try a new kind, I just don’t even know where to begin. I also change back and forth between black and brown. My eyelashes are naturally blonde so sometimes I feel weird wearing black, but honestly there’s not a huge difference.

And TA DA!

Aren’t I perty? I’m enjoying my new make-up routine and the whole thing takes me about five minutes, which is fine by me. If I’m “going out” or trying a little harder, I add eye-liner and eye shadow to this routine… but no one wants to see my pathetic attempts at that. Baby steps.

  1. You look great! 🙂
I fall flat in the makeup department. I’m big into fashion/clothes but makeup….eh, not so much. I used to care a lot more about it but I’ve since given up. All I use is base makeup (foundation, concealer, powder) because I need the coverage, mascara, and blush on most days. I’ll do my eyes up more if I’m going out but eye makeup normally ends up smearing and looking horrible on me anyway. I prefer a natural look anyway, like yours!
Obsessed with my eyelash curler and mascara. Necessities, for sure!

  2. Five minutes haha…i only use a make up primer and tinted moisturizer regularly..,i’ll throw on mascara and eye liner if i’m going out but only if i’m feeling really crazy 😉 oh and i didn’t start wearing it till i was18 and in college 😛

  3. LOVE BARE MINERALS!!!!!

That mascara is my fave. I’ve pretty much tried them all, expensive and cheap and I always go back to covergirl last blast. it’s dabomb.com .

    you so pwetttttty

  4. My routine takes about 10 seconds: mascara! Sephora is my nightmare, I’m so overwhelmed by make-up! A good mascara is a double-sided thing from Loreal, Gold container on one side & white on the other end. Forget the exact name!

    • HAha I don’t even know how to handle Sephora! I had a gift card for the store and it took me forever because I was so overwhelmed!

  5. I like bare minerals stuff too! I did find the mineral veil to be kinda pointless too, but I like all their other stuff. I actually found a mineral foundation by maybelline thats similar to bare minerals and it’s much cheaper. During the winter, I like to use a liquid foundation though since my face gets drier. I’m a big fan of maybelline’s great lash mascara too. I started using it when I first started wearing makeup and I haven’t used anything else since.

  6. The Bare Minerals stuff looks nice! I’ve always used Clinique products but they’re soo expensive and when my last foundation ran out I didn’t want to buy another one (I bought something cheap instead). I’ll have to compare Bare Minerals with Clinique to see how much I’d save!

  7. I’m going to Ulta today to renew my bare minerals stash. I also want to try that primer and get some concealer. I don’t wear mascara but I do wear blush and eye shadow. I’d love to learn how to wear eyeliner but that might be too advanced for me!

    • Kelsey said it’s usually less expensive to buy their stuff at the store? At least the primer. Haha we were at Ulta!
