I haven’t managed to pull together an entire day for WIAW this week, but I figured I should give you a look at the things I’ve been eating over the past several days, including my time in Charleston!
Breakfasts:
Dairy-free overnight oats:
Microwaved oatmeal, almond milk, & sunwarrior protein powder plus some almond butter (please don’t be intimidated by my fancy dishware):
And lots of Chobani and Chex were consumed while in Charleston for quick breakfasts:
Meals:
Veggies and eggs when I’m low on groceries:
Salad from Verde in Mt Pleasant, SC!!!!
Salad from Sultan’s Market in Chicago:
Shrimp and Grits from 82 Queen:
Treats/Snacks:
Margarita…. (does this count as healthy snacking?..)
Frozen yogurt!
Quest Bar and Health Warrior Chia Bars
What’s your favorite restaurant to eat at on vacation?
Have you ever had shrimp and grits?
I’d say you sure did eat pretty well while in Charleston! How do you like those Chia Bars? The coconut flavor sounds delicious.
The coconut flavor is by far my favorite, haha I don’t even buy the others!
It looks like you ate lots of great food in Charleston! Some of my friends go down there on a regular basis and always talk about how there are so many restaurant choices. Grits are actually one of the few foods that I really don’t like.
There really are a ton of great restaurants! Haha and I don’t think you’ve had these grits… it was like half butter and cream, half grits.
Your post reminds me that I need to try Vanilla Chex. Have you tried them yet?! I want to order Healthy Bites so badly!
I heard of them but I haven’t tried them! They sound delicious!!!
oh girl, take me on vacation with you next time! good eats. and yay for healthy bites!
You are ALWAYS welcome! My next trips are possibily CO in August and Minneapolis for HLS in Sept!
Some lovely looking things there! I have been having eggs and veggies for quick easy meals while I wait to restock the cupboards!
that’s what I was doing, although now I’m out of eggs!
Sounds like you’ve been having some great eats! And yes, margaritas count as a sensible snack 😉
Haha sooooo sensible.
What do you think of the half pops? I’ve wanted to try them, but can’t seem to find them anywhere around here!
I thought they were pretty good, great salty snack. I got mine in a Kona Kase (review coming) so I’m not sure where to buy them.
Love healthy bites! I have yet to try a quest bar but feel like I need to do so soon!
oh you MUST! Although I warn you – it’s an expensive habit!
Hi Katie –
I’m moving to chicago at the end of August. Hows the blogger community there??
We’ve built a great little community on our own through our facebook group, and there’s also the Chicago Blogger Network as well!
margaritas definitely count as healthy snacking 🙂 I love that you use a huge measuring cup as a bowl..I love doing stuff like that haha
Well, I try to only microwave in class, plus it’s a great height to keep the oatmeal from overflowing!
Froyo and a margarita definitely count as healthy snacking in my book!
haha at least froyo has some protein and probiotics! the margarita… well…
margaritas at least count as delicious snacking 😉
I like that – haha at least it was delicious!
I’m drooling over the shrimp and grits!
omg seriously, it was amazing.
The sound of those dairy-free oats is awesome! And for some reason I prefer eating out of cheap bowls. Call me weird, but my cabinets are full of ceramic bowls and I choose to eat every single meal out of this green plastic one that my mom gave me to use at school… It has reindeers on it… No shame 😉
Also, that salad from Sultanas looks fabulous! So many different toppings.
I’ve never had hard core grits before, so that would be a no to the grits and shrimp combo. Also, for some reason my family always seems to gravitate towards denny’s/bob evans and steakhouse-type places while on vacation. So odd!
haha well since I made the oats in the microwave instead of on the stove, I figured why transfer to a nice bowl when that just means more dishes to wash!
Oh man, that shrimp and grits looks so good! I love pretty much any restaurant on vacation. I just love an excuse to eat out! 😉
Oh gosh, I eat out too much anyway now. Probably since I still haven’t gone to the grocery store…
The shrimp and grits look aaahhhmazing! I need to buy more corn meal!
Also, have you tried the gluten free vanilla chex? oh. my. god.
Haha someone else mentioned that too – I should look out for it! I just know I’ll finish off the whole box in a day or two… Lol maybe you can bring me a baggie of it?
coconut chia bar…want.
gurl I’ll bring you one if you want.
Have you tried the new vanilla Chex?? Yum!!
Haha you’re the third person to mention it, I guess I MUST try them now!
oh yum those overnight dairy free oats look so satisfying and topped with almond butter…heaven!!
loving the look of your salad too + that popcorn flavour sounds so good; im on a popcorn kick at the moment!
I definitely go through popcorn phases! Haha they usually end just because I run out!
I like eating local food on vacation so no restaurant in particular. I have never had shrimp and grits, but I do put raisins in cheese grits.
I agree, local food is the best on vacation!
I’m from Chicago, but I’ve never been to Sultan’s Market! Need to go.
you should! they have a couple locations, but I’ve only been to the Lincoln Park one.
I had those exact shrimp and grits when I was on vacation in Charleston; our entire meal at 82 Queen was amazing but that was definitely my favorite!
Oh how cool!!! This was only my second time at 82 Queen, we went there the night I graduated college too!
I reeeeaaallllllyyy NEED FRO YO in my life!!!!
omg, they opened one literally 50 yards from my building, it is SO dangerous. I’ve turned it into a twice a week (at least) habit. Needs to stop or my wallet isn’t going to be happy…
we had shrimp and grits for the first time last year and loved them!
ah so good!
Love 82 Queen!! My favorite restaurant is in Charleston- Halls Chop House. It’s amazing. Anyway, did you try the biscuits from 82 Queen that they give you for free?! They are sooo good with whipped butter 🙂
I did not, I can’t have gluten! But the bride was digging into those, she loved them!
[…] immediately broke open the HalfPops, which you saw on my WIAW post last […]
I thought you ate dairy free? You can handle yogurts?
I do not eat dairy free! I use almond milk at home and don’t usually buy dairy, but I definitely include it in my diet every once and a while and when I buy coffee drinks at cafes!
so you can eat cheese and all dairy now? I read your post on being intolerant to dairy, but I see you eat Quest Bars with whey in addition to yogurts. Sorry, just confused! You do buy chobani and quest bars, no?
My doctor told me to avoid dairy, almost two years ago, to help figure out my digestive issues. I’ve discovered I basically have IBS and I know that gluten and soy make my symptoms worse so I avoid those. I also avoid most artificial sweeteners (except stevia) when I can. However, it’s not an absolute diet and always changing depending on my lifestyle and stress level at the time. I always allow myself a little wiggle room to enjoy things that I like since there doesn’t seem to be a “perfect” diet for me.
