WIAW–Rainy Sunday

Hey everyone! I hope you’re all having a good week! I’m in countdown mode – only two days left until I’m on Spring Break!!! I don’t want to rub it in since I know most of you aren’t students, but it’s my last one ever so I’ve got to enjoy it!

This week’s What I Ate Wednesday Post includes all my food from Sunday, which was a pretty dreary, rainy day here in Chicago. If you’re new to WIAW, head over to Peas and Crayons to read what it’s all about and to see the other participating bloggers!

Peas and Crayons

My morning started off with my newest obsession: Oat Bran. Love. It’s got a great texture and it cooks SO QUICKLY! I made oat bran with some vanilla and stevia and paired it with a  strawberry chobani and some almond butter. Coffee on the side, of course.

After getting a little reading done, I did Jillian Michael’s 6 week 6 pack level 1, and then some lower body strength training with a resistance band. I didn’t add in any cardio since I planned on taking a 3 mile walk later to the store and back.

After my workout I was craving a smoothie, so I made my Chocolate Kale “Sludge” Smoothie and ate it with an orange on the side.

I also had a piece of Udi’s bread with 1/2 T of almond butter.

After that I did some MORE reading (gotta love law school) and then headed out to walk those 3 miles, run some errands, and stop in to see Molly (oh, and my brother and sister-in-law).

When I got back I made some tea and had a dark chocolate Hershey kiss and a ginger chew (I usually eat about 3 of these a day… #addicted).

I tried to put off eating the Whole Foods hot bar food that I’d gotten for dinner, but I was HUNGRY and I figured, who cares what time I eat dinner? So I ate it. At 4:15pm.

Don’t judge.

Obviously I got hungry later, especially since everything I chose was a veggie and there were no proteins in my “dinner” so that evening I ended up having a cheese quesadilla and a couple spoonful’s of almond butter.

I also had two (unpictured) Hershey kisses.

Do you ever eat meals at odd times, especially on the weekend?

Have you ever had oat bran? (I know Kelsey is a huge fan!)

  1. i love a day filled with almond butter! those are my favorite kind of days. i also JUST was eyeing the bag of oat bran i have in my pantry and have no idea what to do with it (i bought it to make muffins a while ago and haven’t touched it since) and now i am going to use it for breakfast. thank you for inspiring my morning meals as usual 🙂

  2. I’ve never tried oat bran before, other than in baking. That’s awesome that it cooks so quickly though. I usually use large flake rolled oats, which take like 5-7 minutes to cook, so they’re not great if I’m in a rush!

I usually eat at pretty regular times, unless I go out to brunch or make plans for a late lunch or something.

  3. Hmmm… Your oatmeal with strawberry and almond butter combo sounds like a fun twist on a PB&J. Sorta 😉

And Whole Foods hot bars! Bless your soul… You always find THE BEST stuff at yours. The ones that I’ve been too always have great cold bars, but their hot bars are always full of pasta and tofu. Bring on the veggies!

And I usually eat supper whenever I get hungry. A few times in the past week it was at 4:00, and sometimes it was at 7:00. I don’t really think there is a “perfect” time.

    • Well, this is the GIANT Whole Foods in Chicago and has by far the best hot bar I’ve been to at any Whole Foods. It makes me spoiled…

  4. We eat at odd times constantly. On the weekends we eat a big meal around two and call it linner (lunch and dinner) since it will count for both. I eat a really early lunch during the week, so I am really hungry for dinner early. Five is about as late as I want to eat. If we go out, we are always eating with the old folks. 😉

    • Haha I love eating with the old folks! 3 days a week I can’t eat dinner until 7 because of class and commuting and it soooo late to me!

  5. I’ve never had oat bran before.. maybe it’s something I should try!

I love ginger chews. I keep some at my desk at work so I can have one after my coffee in the morning. I can’t chew gum anymore (will chew the entire pack and then have stomach issues) so ginger chews are a nice option!

Happy Wednesday– you’re almost done with the week!

  6. I am counting down the days until my spring break begins too! It will be next Monday after three finals! I cannot wait. That chocolate sludge kale smoothie looks really good. I have never had oatbran before but I am willing to try it.

  7. Every single time I get Whole Foods hot bar I have to eat it immediately, if not sooner! Even if I know a large glass of water can fill me up until a real dinner time, I can’t resist and dig in! Glad I am not alone! I am new to your blog and I love it! : ) Enjoy your Spring Break!

    • I hear about the water trick, but honestly it curbs my hunger for about 5 minutes… Haha and yes, half of it is inability to resist digging in! and THANK YOU for reading, Morgan!!

  8. My crazy school schedule leads to me eating a random times. I usually eat “dinner” around 4:30 or 5, and a big snack at dinnertime. I don’t even attempt to eat at “appropriate” meal times. It just doesn’t happen. Hahah!

Your oatmeal/yogurt bowl is so pretty!

    • I agree – and for some reason quesadillas make me feel like a kid? Probably because I ate them a lot when I was younger… haha

  9. Um hello we are snack twins. Cheese quesadillas are the BOMB and god bless almond butter. Your kale sludge smoothie looks yumtastic too!

I’m so jealous of your whole foods bar dinner. I miss the crap out of my beloved Green Life Grocery-turned Whole Foods Sellout back home. It was so delicious and adorable and right next to my favorite yoga studio in all the world. Hope you enjoyed, and thanks for sharing! Happy WIAW 🙂

  10. I feel like I’d love oat bran. I’m so sick of regular old oats right now so that looks like a good alternative.
I’ve been eating at weird times lately and it’s throwing me off! My body is so sensitive it’s ridiculous. I try to keep a set eating schedule but lately it’s not happening.

  11. Love the oat bran/yogurt combo! Is that blooming tea? My roommate makes it sometimes and I always think it looks so cool!

I tend to eat at weird times every day. Because of school/work/rehearsals I tend to eat a decent sized breakfast, a small snack around normal lunch time, and then my biggest meal of the day around 3-5pm. So Linner? But it’s always different. I need to work on a better eating schedule!

  12. first. that oat bran looks delish. i love creamy!
second. NEVER apologize for eating when you’re hungry. honor your body. listen to it. your body doesn’t know its 4:15, your body knows it’s hungry. and if you were hungry again at 7:00. owell. time doesn’t matter. hunger cues matter.
oh and by the way as “gross” as that smoothie is suppose to look, i think it looks delish. maybe i’m weird, but i immediately checked for the recipe. i LOVE green smoothies.

  13. Mmm, I am an oat bran lover lately too!! I find myself eating it almost daily lately. I love how you paired it with the yogurt. I usually add some egg whites to mine and sometimes chia, then top it w/fruit & nut butter. The Whole Foods hot bar dinner you had looks wonderful! Wish I had a Whole Foods closer than an hour & a half away in Milwaukee! Have a great day!
