Hey everyone! I hope you’re all having a good week! I’m in countdown mode – only two days left until I’m on Spring Break!!! I don’t want to rub it in since I know most of you aren’t students, but it’s my last one ever so I’ve got to enjoy it!
This week’s What I Ate Wednesday Post includes all my food from Sunday, which was a pretty dreary, rainy day here in Chicago. If you’re new to WIAW, head over to Peas and Crayons to read what it’s all about and to see the other participating bloggers!
My morning started off with my newest obsession: Oat Bran. Love. It’s got a great texture and it cooks SO QUICKLY! I made oat bran with some vanilla and stevia and paired it with a strawberry chobani and some almond butter. Coffee on the side, of course.
After getting a little reading done, I did Jillian Michael’s 6 week 6 pack level 1, and then some lower body strength training with a resistance band. I didn’t add in any cardio since I planned on taking a 3 mile walk later to the store and back.
After my workout I was craving a smoothie, so I made my Chocolate Kale “Sludge” Smoothie and ate it with an orange on the side.
I also had a piece of Udi’s bread with 1/2 T of almond butter.
After that I did some MORE reading (gotta love law school) and then headed out to walk those 3 miles, run some errands, and stop in to see Molly (oh, and my brother and sister-in-law).
When I got back I made some tea and had a dark chocolate Hershey kiss and a ginger chew (I usually eat about 3 of these a day… #addicted).
I tried to put off eating the Whole Foods hot bar food that I’d gotten for dinner, but I was HUNGRY and I figured, who cares what time I eat dinner? So I ate it. At 4:15pm.
Don’t judge.
Obviously I got hungry later, especially since everything I chose was a veggie and there were no proteins in my “dinner” so that evening I ended up having a cheese quesadilla and a couple spoonful’s of almond butter.
I also had two (unpictured) Hershey kisses.
Do you ever eat meals at odd times, especially on the weekend?
Have you ever had oat bran? (I know Kelsey is a huge fan!)
i love a day filled with almond butter! those are my favorite kind of days. i also JUST was eyeing the bag of oat bran i have in my pantry and have no idea what to do with it (i bought it to make muffins a while ago and haven’t touched it since) and now i am going to use it for breakfast. thank you for inspiring my morning meals as usual 🙂
I’ve finished half that almond butter jar in less than a week! And just make the oat bran like oats!
i love the oatmeal / yogurt combo. i was obsessed a couple of weeks ago. i like oatbran, too.
OOOOO and is that an anthropologie K mug?! i might have to steal it from you.
It is!! They are only $8!
I havent’ had oat bran in a long time but fast cooking has me wanting to try it again. I love doing the oat/yogurt mix when it gets warmer. It is so filling and satisfying!
I’m obsessed! And it is SO quick!
my life is one big ODD MEAL at a QUIRKY time 🙂
Haha that’s the only way to live!
ADORE oat bran. I eat oatmeal for almost every breakfast – but I eat a combination of old fashioned oats, oat bran, and chia seeds. 🙂
Also luuurve ginger chews. I’ve actually only had the orange ones, but I’m pretty addicted as well.
Happy WIAW!
Ooooo that sounds like an interesting combo! I never thought to combine grains together!
I’ve never tried oat bran before, other than in baking. That’s awesome that it cooks so quickly though. I usually use large flake rolled oats, which take like 5-7 minutes to cook, so they’re not great if I’m in a rush!
I usually eat at pretty regular times, unless I go out to brunch or make plans for a late lunch or something.
Those are the type of oats I use, so it takes a while! I was shocked at how fast the oat bran was!
I saw those ginger chews at the store the other day, I’m curious to try them sometime.
And weekends tend to involve weirdly-timed meals. Gotta eat when you’re hungry!
I loooooove ginger chews!
Oh my goodness that breakfast looks divine! Love the idea of oatbran and yog at once!
It’s a great mix! I love the two textures
Hmmm… Your oatmeal with strawberry and almond butter combo sounds like a fun twist on a PB&J. Sorta 😉
And Whole Foods hot bars! Bless your soul… You always find THE BEST stuff at yours. The ones that I’ve been too always have great cold bars, but their hot bars are always full of pasta and tofu. Bring on the veggies!
And I usually eat supper whenever I get hungry. A few times in the past week it was at 4:00, and sometimes it was at 7:00. I don’t really think there is a “perfect” time.
Well, this is the GIANT Whole Foods in Chicago and has by far the best hot bar I’ve been to at any Whole Foods. It makes me spoiled…
i have tried oat bran before – pretty indifferent about it. and we usually eat around 5pm so any earlier puts us in the 4 oclock hour which feels suuuuper early!
Haha I try to wait until after 5 too!
I find my meals can be at totally weird times due to my weird school/work schedule. It changes several times during the week, which annoys me, but hey, gotta go with the flow, right?!
That’s how I am – going with the flow when it comes to timing!
We eat at odd times constantly. On the weekends we eat a big meal around two and call it linner (lunch and dinner) since it will count for both. I eat a really early lunch during the week, so I am really hungry for dinner early. Five is about as late as I want to eat. If we go out, we are always eating with the old folks. 😉
Haha I love eating with the old folks! 3 days a week I can’t eat dinner until 7 because of class and commuting and it soooo late to me!
I’ve never had oat bran before.. maybe it’s something I should try!
I love ginger chews. I keep some at my desk at work so I can have one after my coffee in the morning. I can’t chew gum anymore (will chew the entire pack and then have stomach issues) so ginger chews are a nice option!
Happy Wednesday– you’re almost done with the week!
You should try it, Kelsey and I are OBSESSED. And I can’t chew gum either, maybe that’s why I like them so much!
I often eat at funny times depending on my hunger and schedule. I find that if a meal doesn’t include protein it’s not really a meal cause I end up hungry again right away.
Me too! If there’s no protein I’m hungry less than 2 hours later!
Oat bran how I love thee.
You should write a poem.
I love the WF hot bar. Sooo delicious!!
It’s my favorite!
I’ve never tried oat bran before, but I keep hearing about it and want to give it a try! How would you describe the texture? Is the taste like oats except just a different consistency/texture?
Hmm… it tastes like oats but the grains are smaller, so it’s thicker. Like halfway between flour and oats.
I always eat lunch on the weekends at like 2:00 instead of my normal noon lunch. I blame it on sleeping in later. Gotta catch up on that sleep!
Ah I wish I could sleep in later! I always wake up early on the weekends no matter how late I’m up!
oh man I am craving whole foods hot bar like no other
I am ALWAYS craving the Whole Foods hot bar. Always.
I love ginger chews!
I’m obsessed!
I am counting down the days until my spring break begins too! It will be next Monday after three finals! I cannot wait. That chocolate sludge kale smoothie looks really good. I have never had oatbran before but I am willing to try it.
Good luck on your finals!
Mmmmm almond butter. Also, you have to have a little chocolate throughout the day 😉
I have those Hershey kisses in case of chocolate cravings! They’re the perfect size for a quick fix.
Every single time I get Whole Foods hot bar I have to eat it immediately, if not sooner! Even if I know a large glass of water can fill me up until a real dinner time, I can’t resist and dig in! Glad I am not alone! I am new to your blog and I love it! : ) Enjoy your Spring Break!
I hear about the water trick, but honestly it curbs my hunger for about 5 minutes… Haha and yes, half of it is inability to resist digging in! and THANK YOU for reading, Morgan!!
That sludge looks mighty tasty!
Haha it looks nasty but tastes amazing!
Oh yeah! My eats are alll over the place on the weekends haha…used to frustrate me but now i just try to roll with it 🙂
I go with the flow too – it’s all about when I’m hungry, not following a schedule!
My crazy school schedule leads to me eating a random times. I usually eat “dinner” around 4:30 or 5, and a big snack at dinnertime. I don’t even attempt to eat at “appropriate” meal times. It just doesn’t happen. Hahah!
Your oatmeal/yogurt bowl is so pretty!
School definitely messes up my schedule!
I just bought oat bran this past weekend! I can’t wait to try it. 🙂
So good! Enjoy!
Weekends are probably the worst as there is really no set schedule. Got to love those Whole Food meals!
Haha I don’t know if I’d call it the worst – I like not having a schedule!
That salad bar food looks delicious!!!!
I love quesadillas. Love them. So simple. so filling. so magical. 😉
I agree – and for some reason quesadillas make me feel like a kid? Probably because I ate them a lot when I was younger… haha
I eat oat bran every. single. morning. It’s my favorite!! I cook it with egg whites, almond milk and cinnamon, and then add berries and a dallop of almond butter on top.
Sounds delicious! I’ve definitely become addicted
Oh wow that breakfast looks amazing! I definitely eat at some weird times at weekends, I try and go off my hunger rather than the clock
me too! Haha just felt like an old lady eating so early!
Um hello we are snack twins. Cheese quesadillas are the BOMB and god bless almond butter. Your kale sludge smoothie looks yumtastic too!
I’m so jealous of your whole foods bar dinner. I miss the crap out of my beloved Green Life Grocery-turned Whole Foods Sellout back home. It was so delicious and adorable and right next to my favorite yoga studio in all the world. Hope you enjoyed, and thanks for sharing! Happy WIAW 🙂
That’s too bad about your Green Life Grocery! I love good health food stores like that!
I spy roasted sweet potatoes from Whole Foods! Delicious.
YES! I get them every time!
TJ’s almond butter is the best! I cannot get enough of it! I am really loving the crunchy variety right now.
Oooo I haven’t gotten crunchy in a while, I should get that next!
I’ve definitely had days where I end up eating dinner ridiculously early, but I figure if I’m hungry, why drag out my suffering and wait? Clocks be damned, bodies know best 😀
Exactly my thinking – I figured why have a snack when I was really hungry and ready for dinner?
I feel like I’d love oat bran. I’m so sick of regular old oats right now so that looks like a good alternative.
I’ve been eating at weird times lately and it’s throwing me off! My body is so sensitive it’s ridiculous. I try to keep a set eating schedule but lately it’s not happening.
I’m all over the place at the weekend but when hunger hits I dig in! 🙂 Love the combo of the oat bran and yoghurt!
Love the oat bran/yogurt combo! Is that blooming tea? My roommate makes it sometimes and I always think it looks so cool!
I tend to eat at weird times every day. Because of school/work/rehearsals I tend to eat a decent sized breakfast, a small snack around normal lunch time, and then my biggest meal of the day around 3-5pm. So Linner? But it’s always different. I need to work on a better eating schedule!
I love oat bran as well, but completely stopped eating it once I got sick of oats. I think it may be time to bring it back though, and perhaps try pairing it with Greek yogurt!
first. that oat bran looks delish. i love creamy!
second. NEVER apologize for eating when you’re hungry. honor your body. listen to it. your body doesn’t know its 4:15, your body knows it’s hungry. and if you were hungry again at 7:00. owell. time doesn’t matter. hunger cues matter.
oh and by the way as “gross” as that smoothie is suppose to look, i think it looks delish. maybe i’m weird, but i immediately checked for the recipe. i LOVE green smoothies.
Mmm, I am an oat bran lover lately too!! I find myself eating it almost daily lately. I love how you paired it with the yogurt. I usually add some egg whites to mine and sometimes chia, then top it w/fruit & nut butter. The Whole Foods hot bar dinner you had looks wonderful! Wish I had a Whole Foods closer than an hour & a half away in Milwaukee! Have a great day!
I’ve never had oat bran, but your picture makes me want to try it. Sometimes I go through phases where I eat at weird times, but not so much recently.
