Why did I title this Hanson 2013? Because I fully intend to see them in concert over and over and over and over again. So get ready for Hanson 2014, Hanson 2015, and so on.
Let’s backup.
In… March or April of this year Kelsey discovered that Hanson was coming to Chicago during their tour and insisted we go. As a Hanson fan in my younger days I thought this could be pretty fun so we bought our tickets and waited…
Months and months later it was FINALLY TIME FOR HANSON!
After grabbing dinner at Taco Joint with Emily, her friend Kelli, Lindsay and Kelsey, we proceeded to the House of Blues to wait outside until we could get into the venue. We got there plenty early since our tickets were general admission, meaning we needed to elbow our way as close to the front as possible.
Don’t worry, we didn’t actually elbow our way to the front… but many other girls tried to. Drama ensued, lots of shouting, name calling etc. You don’t mess with boy-band fans. (Again, you know me, we stood there silently watching it all happen…).
SO EXCITED!
Love these girls. True friends go see Hanson together.
While we were standing in the venue waiting for the opening act to come out we noticed that TAYLOR HANSON had come out into the bar area on the opposite side of the stage from us. We kept thinking – there are three of them and only one of the three is over at that bar, so one of the other brothers is bound to come out by the bar right next to us, right? Wrong. After waiting for 20 minutes, Kelsey took fate into her own hands, elbowed her way across the crowd and man-handled Taylor.
For her amazing photo WITH him and a hilarious recap of this venture to the other side of the crowd, please go read her blog post. You will laugh, I promise.

After some serious anticipation, Hanson came out around 9:30 and I just died. I never actually thought they were cute back in the late 90s but these guys grew up well. Pictures do them no justice. That hair. I die.
They played a great mix from all three of their albums, many songs I didn’t know but plenty that I did. I really loved getting to see them play.
My biggest question since buying my ticket back in the Spring was: “Would they play MmmBop?”
My prayers were answered.
The song started up and I literally screamed, doubled over and grabbed Kelsey’s arm because I about lost it. I was a pre-teen all over again and I loved every second of it. Actually, I hated being a pre-teen so this was way better.
If you ever spend too much time with me (I warn you against this) you’ll notice that if I’m really bored I will randomly break out into the chorus of MmmBop. This song has been stuck in my head for 15 years and I finally got to hear them play it live. I can die happy.
And because I love you all:
What was your first concert?
What’s the best concert you’ve ever been to? Mine would be a tie between this concert and seeing an ABBA cover band at the Red Rocks in Denver. Oh and Zac Brown Band at Frontier Days in WY. That was cool.
I doubt you even remember her but LAURA BRANNIGAN was my first concert 🙂
Lol no I’m not sure who that is, but I’m also awful at knowing anyone’s name so…
haha hanson came to st louis for a free concert this summer and my friend and i went…. everyone went nuts when mmmbop came on!!
Oh I wish they’d come back and do that here!
Gahhhh – Hanson!! My 11 year old self is super jealous (and so is my 20-something self, ha!) So glad you had a blast and that your fav song was played 🙂
Haha I think both my 11 year old and 25 year old self enjoyed it!
My first question when I saw the title of the post was whether or not they had played mmmbop! :-p Glad that you enjoyed yourself!
Haha that’s all I kept thinking up until they played it!
Believe it or not, but Hanson was my first concert!!! Pretty sure I was in the fourth grade. I have a lifelong love for them!
Awww how cool!
Gosh. I am so jealous of this! They were at the MN State Fair the DAY after we went – I wish I would have known…First concert was Rascal Flatts per my stepmom’s choice. Favorite concert? Jack’s Mannequin – please look him up – and Timeflies (its a tie!)! I also saw the Rocket Summer at Warped Tour, and he was amazing as well.
I don’t know either of those two, but I do like Rascal Flatts! Haha I’m guessing that wasn’t your fave!
Sounds like you and your friends had a lot of fun.
My first concert was Bush. I went with my dad and my brother.
I have never heard of Bush… haha I think I live under a rock when it comes to music.
They were big in the early 90’s. Maybe heard of this song – it was one of their biggesthits http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5WPbqYoz9HA
Then again I think everyone must know who they are cause I liked them so much.
Such a fun night!! Maybe your post will end up on a Hanson fan site like Kelsey’s :).
Haha doubt it
Soooo jealous I wish I would have known about it!!! Taylor is still my all-time teeny-bopper crush! Hope you had a MMMBoppin great time!
Oh my gosh Taylor’s HAIR! He’s my all time adult crush!
I am so so stinking jealous!!! I need to get on their mailing list so I can figure out how to see them live! Also, I hate the elbowing and bs. The last concert my friends and I went to we hung in the back, we could see better and weren’t hassled.
Oh yea, there was WAY too much drama for me. It’s common courtesy – if you didn’t get there early to get a spot of front then don’t shove your way up there!
Awesome! Hanson was super cool (especially in my younger days-haha). Love the pic of Taylor Hanson! My first concert was Spice Girls…seriously. My ten-year-old self nearly died of happiness. But, my favorite concert was probably Rothbury Music Festival (back in 2010). It was so much fun to see hundreds of bands come together in such a cool venue 🙂
Oh my gosh I WISH I could have gone to a Spice Girls concert, I loved them!
I went to the concert Sunday night, and this post sums up my thoughts exactly. I’m not sure I’ve even been as happy in my entire life as I was when they started playing MmmBop! I die1
Oh cool, so glad you got to go as well!!!
That is sadly the ONLY song I know of that Hanson plays…..so yes, I do def know the lyrics & the song 😉
Glad you had a blast! it’s fun to just be silly & young again once in awhile, eh??
Haha I didn’t know any of their new stuff until Kelsey sent it to me after we got tickets!
I am DYING right now!! I can’t believe you got to see Hanson – HANSON!! They were my favorite boy band back in the day (Still to this day I don’t know a single N’Sync or Backstreet Boys song cuz all I listened to was Hanson).
So the moral of this story is: If there is a Hanson 2014 please notify me immediately and I will fly to Chicago to experience the amazingness.
OMG YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS! We will stalk them!
oh my goodness! Too FUN!!!!!
YES! So fun!
One of my friends from college is OBSESSED with Hanson. Like literally. Goes to all their SoCal shows, dragged me along to the desert one random night when they decided to play a show there so she wouldn’t have to drive alone, and even flew to Oklahoma for their fan something or other. I was never a huge fan of theirs, even way back when (nothing against them though), so I had zero hopes when I went with her but they were FABULOUS! Had they not had the Hanson name attached, I would have never known that was them. They really are great musicians in every capacity!
Oh I’m glad you liked them! I agree – their new music is really good!
[…] everyone! I can’t believe it’s Thursday already… where did the time go!?! I guess tossing a Hanson Concert into your week throws things off! Nevertheless, it’s time for this week’s Thursday […]
Looks like you guys had a blast!
My first concert should have been The Counting Crows and The Wallflowers. It ended up being some chick (who was so bad I don’t remember her name) and just The Wallflowers because the Crows lead singer had “throat issues”. Disappointing first concert experience for sure!
My best would be a tie between all 3 times I’ve seen Nine Inch Nails (including last Friday). I wish I could have gotten pics like yours, but we were in the Boston Garden which is huge, and we weren’t exactly close. I have a few on my blog today though from the show if you want to see them. The lighting they use is amazing and always blows me away!
I am so damn jealous. MmmBop is on every single running playlist on my ipod. Why did we not sing it together when we were together??? Plan for your visit: Sing MmmBop.
