WIAW–Busy Sunday

Hey everyone, Happy Wednesday! I love Wednesdays, because once the day starts I’m halfway done with my school week! (yay for no class Fridays!) I’m also excited for this weekend since I have our blogger book club and then the Thriller in Schiller 5K!

I wanted to remind you all that we’re reading Dark Places by Gillian Flynn and I’ve decided that if you want to read along and post your own review on your blog, I’ll do a review round up! This idea is totally Julie’s on Peanut Butter Fingers, but I love the idea of everyone reading and discussing a book together so I wanted to do it as well! (even got her seal of approval!) I’ll be posting the review roundup on Monday, October 29th so e-mail me the link to your post by 5am that morning (peaceloveandoats@gmail.com). And if you’re late, send it along and I’ll add it in later!

I also realize this gives you less than a week if you haven’t read the book… but I’ll do this every month so you’ll get a chance again!

Now on to What I Ate Wednesday! If you’re new to WIAW, head over to Peas and Crayons to learn what it’s all about and to check out the other bloggers who are participating!

Spooky Snacks and Healthy Halloween Treats

Today’s WIAW is from Sunday, which was… an interesting day. I woke up around 7 and posted my blog, read a couple, and got ready to head out. I left at 8 for an MPRE review course (legal ethics exam) but I realized while I was waiting for the bus that I let my computer’s power cord in my apartment and my battery was almost dead… I ran back to get it and at this point was running super late. I was lucky and made it there with enough time to grab coffee and oatmeal from starbucks like I’d planned. However, I got to school and saw that the building was locked! We were told they’d rescheduled the class for 10… awesome.

While waiting I sliced up a banana with my spoon and added nuts to the oatmeal, and then when we got the news I headed back to starbucks to eat and do some work.

I also had a grande coffee with 1 pump of pumpkin spice. The class ended up going until 2 and lucky for me I packed plenty of snacks!

I ended up eating the apple, carrots and one of the Kind bars during/right after the class. Afterwards I headed to Forever 21 and Whole Foods (*rant* – I hate the 8 Halsted bus1!! It’s always 20 min away when I get to a stop! *end rant*).

Between Forever 21 and Whole Foods I was starving again (um maybe because I had no time for lunch?) so I ate another one of my Kind Bars.

By the time I got home I was ready for dinner, and it was… 4:30. Linner? Whatever, I was hungry! I dug into my hot bar selection from Whole Foods:

Lol it looks like a mess, but there was butternut squash, an aztec chicken dish, some quinoa dish, another rice dish with mushrooms, some beans under that kale, and PEAS!

And right after that I had some Arctic Zero and sundrops for dessert!

Since I ate dinner… well, a liiiiittle early I was hungry later and had an apple and 2 banana protein muffins from Dashing Dish, along with some Peach tea from Yogi.

Haha and then for dessert #2 I had some frozen strawberries with flax milk and stevia!

Seriously, day of snacking! That’s what happens when I’m running around on the weekend, but it worked!

Do you tend to survive off of snacks on really busy days?

What’s your favorite kind of tea? I’m looking for new ones!

**Don’t forget to participate in the book club if you can!**

  1. I’m so sad I can’t do the thriller in Schiller anymore I just got called into work for Sunday. Artic zero is really yummy! Their pumpkin spice flavor is really good too. My favorite tea is chocolate tea . It’s called numi dark chocolate tea or get tizano tea.

  2. I definitely survive off of snacks on busy days. Today I have a micro exam and all of my meals will probably be quick and snackish.

My favorite kind of tea is English Breakfast Tea. So good plain, or with a little honey!

Oh and your linner looks so good. Seriously craving the Whole Foods salad bar now!

  3. I tried flax milk for the first time last week — it’s awesome!! It’s unsweetened, but it’s still sweeter than unsweetened almond milk — so fabulous because it tastes like a treat, but it’s not really. 😉 Putting strawberries with flax milk = genius. Maybe even warming them up just a touch? MMm!
If I have a busy day, I’m more likely to break my day into smaller meals than many, many snacks. I find that I’m more likely to eat all the snacks at once and still be hungry later because I’m not as satisfied.
Hope that your Wednesday is going well!!

  4. Since I started working full time I feel like I live off snacks! Fine by me though- I definitely prefer smaller, more frequent meals. They seem to be easier on my stomach.

Peach tea sounds delicious! I keep meaning to try Yogi tea.

  5. I really want to try that ice cream! I love reading your blog because I’m from Chicago, too! My entire family lives on the South Side, so whenever you talk about going certain places, it reminds me a bit of being home 🙂

  6. I’m kind of the opposite when it comes to busy days. I’m really BAD at eating! I tend to forget and then have a gigantic dinner. Probably not the best way to go about things! Yesterday I had a super busy day so I planned my meals ahead of time and tried to drink a TON of water. That helped a lot!

I really like all of the Twinnings teas- especially the Green Tea to keep me going in the afternoon.

And yes, I agree. The Halsted bus sucks! Waiting for buses is one of the things I do NOT miss about living in the city.

  7. you are totes prepared with all your snackies! I normally have a smashed up Luna bar somewhere in my purse in case hunger strikes but when I pull it out it’s so smashed I don’t want it anymore.

you would think I would replace it, but it just stays in there for the next time I Think I want to eat it but don’t…

  8. i am a huge snack person, easier for me than getting real meals at work. they cover me for my crazy schedule. i hate the bus schedules in dc as well, i never have one near me when i need it. i end up walking to see it pass me right as i get to my destination. gr.

    • I love it! I don’t like the vanilla flavor, but the chocolate, peanut butter chocolate and strawberry are all really good. It’s worth trying it, $5 for a pint. It seems like a lot but really that’s what I’d spend on one fro yo so it’s the same!

    • Give it a try, only $5! That’s the same as a cup of froyo! And I recommend chocolate, peanut butter chocolate or strawberry (the vanilla tastes weird…)

  9. I’m a major snacker allll the time, but especially on busy days. I often don’t have time to eat a full meal so everything is consumed in little bits and pieces. I actually prefer it this way; it gives me things to look forward to!

  10. I looooove cinnamon tea. I have a few bags left of Cinnamon-Orange from when I was in Seattle last December and it’s just heavenly. Lately my Foodie Penpals have been inundating me with tea, so once it gets cold (seriously, Chicago, get your crap together. It’s not August anymore) I imagine I’ll be drinking a LOT of tea haha.

  11. I try to bring snacks for busy days but I often forget. I also tend to over eat when I snack a lot because I never really feel satisfied even if I’m not hungry.

I still need to do the WF hot bar. Every time I see it I’m reminded of its awesomeness but I’ve never tried it!

  12. I love the book club idea too! I’ll be joining. I am a snacker, sort of. I end up eating breakfast, lunch, second lunch, and dinner, sometimes a dessert too. That is all mainly due to my awkward work schedule and not having a meal break, so I eat two smaller meals (either lunch and 2nd lunch, or 2nd lunch and dinner). 2nd lunch is usually too big for me to consider calling it a snack. Ha! That sounds funny reading it!

I’ve been digging the Joy tea that Starbucks sells during the winter time. It is a green black mix. It’s not out again yet. I stocked up last winter when I worked at the Bux. Otherwise I’m earthy in my choice of Zen (Tazo) or simple Nettle, which is a great base for making your own tea mixtures and good for allergy season.

  13. i’m a crazy snacker on the weekends but particularly when i’m home. when i’m out and about and busy i am awful about packing snacks so i don’t tend to snack that much but lord knows if i have access to my pantry and all i’m doing is watching the food network…i can’t stop myself from picking!

excited to hear about thriller in schiller!

  14. I haven’t read any Gillian Flynn, “Gone Girl” is on my list. Is “Dark Places” a quick read? I don’t blog, but I may read it and follow the reviews.

Your Whole Foods combo looks great, although I’m still one of those kids who needs little separate compartments on my plate so things don’t touch, so I’d struggle with this. Ha. I need to try Arctic Zero.

    • I would LOVE if WF had compartments in their containers! If only… And I thought dark places was quick, I finished it in about 3 days!

      • Total fail. I intended on buying this book and then read Chelsey’s review of Sharp Objects by Flynn and bought it. Maybe next month I’ll do the book group!
