Hey everyone! I hope you’re all having a good week! Today at 4pm I pick up my take-home exam and I have 24 hours to complete it, so by 4pm tomorrow I am DONE with law school! YAY! Haha just have to survive the next day and a half and hopefully pass all my classes… fingers crossed!
Today’s WIAW post comes from Monday, a day where I had a chiropractor appointment and then I volunteered in the afternoon. I thought it would only take an hour so I had a snack instead of lunch before (didn’t have time to sit down to lunch) but it ended up taking 2.5 hours… haha so my food from Monday is a bit all over the place and snacky, but that’s what happens when you’re busy I guess!
If you’re new to What I Ate Wednesday, head on over to Peas and Crayons to find out what it’s all about and see the other participating bloggers!
In the morning I had a cup of coffee and half a banana before heading to the gym to do my tabata style workout from Tina’s Best Body Boot Camp. Sorry, no picture… Too much mental work at that time of day.
When I got back I was more than ready for breakfast. Can you take a wild guess what I had?
CHOCOLATE PROTEIN OAT BRAN! Haha I do have to say I’ve occasionally been mixing it up with eggs and a sweet potato (okay, once) but I just love this stuff!
After breakfast I got a little work done and then walked to my chiropractor’s office. It’s a mile away and there isn’t a great way to get there by public transportation, but I actually really love the walk so I don’t mind. Just have to be sure to leave early enough!
After my appointment I wanted to finish my paper, so I went to David’s Tea, which was just a block away, picked out a tea (Superberry – really liked it!) and sat and finished my paper.
By the time I’d finished I knew I needed to leave to volunteer in about 10 minutes (no time to go get lunch) so I snacked on some chopped up veggies and a Quest bar:
Volunteering took way longer than I expected, but luckily the time flew by and before I knew it, it was almost 4pm! AH! I wanted to study at a huge Starbucks that was on the way home, so I got off the train there and on my way passed a Jimmy John’s. On an impulse I went in and ordered a roast beef “unwich” where they wrap it in lettuce rather than putting it on bread.
Um. I do NOT recommend this. It was like a snack. I actually looked up the nutritional facts when I realized I was still starving after eating it and it was 90 calories. Yum. So I had another Quest bar and a Café Au Lait while getting some work done.
After heading home I wasn’t feeling a “real” dinner with all my snacks, so I had a sweet potato with ketchup and guacamole (more added afterwards):
And then some greek yogurt (with vanilla and stevia mixed in), frozen berries in almond milk, and almond butter. I normally mix the berries in the yogurt, but for some reason felt like eating the yogurt on its own. Whatever.
And there you have it!
Have you ever had a day where you have snacks rather than meals due to your schedule?
Anyone else ever tried an unwich or something similar?
What’s your favorite coffee drink?
I’ve had lettuce wraps before when we had room service in Hawaii but I think I ordered roast potatoes or something carby on the side to fill me up. They are a good idea in principle but I can see how they may not fill you up!
it definitely needed a side!
WOW!! Finished with law school…what an accomplishment! Congrats!!
Thanks, Fran!
Good luck with your final take home exam!
Baha. Only 90 calories for that lettuce wrap?! No wonder you were hungry.
Thanks!!
Yes I have tried an unwich and felt the exact same way, starving! Definitely not worth the money. In winter I love Starbucks skinny vanilla lattes and peppermint mochas, but in summer I am all about iced coffee with soy!
Good luck with your exam- youre almost there!
Soooo not worth the money! And I’m all about the iced coffee too in the summer!
I’ve never tried guacamole on sweet potatoes, but I feel like I should. It looks great!
I love unwiches! But I completely agree, they’re not a meal on their own.
You must try it!
I’ve ordered the bunless burger from Five Guys a few times and I LOVED it!
I love their bunless burger too!
I’ve done that at In N Out before, so good!
Congratulations on finishing! That’s such an accomplishment!
Thanks, Alyssa!
I love the “Beach Club” unwich! It’s got avocado and mayo and cheese, with turkey, so I think it’s about 300 calories. It really fills me up! And I can typically eat a lot. You just have to get a more hearty and indulgent sandwich I guess!
Oh that sounds good! I was looking for something with avocado but didn’t see that! The guy was staring me down so I wanted to order quickly…
Ha I had the same issue with the unwich. I stopped and got one on a long road trip thinking it would be a healthy lunch option, I thought wrong! It satisfied my hunger for all of 20 minutes. I don’t think they should be able to sell that as a meal sandwich.
I agree, Nicole!
Good luck with the exam and congratulations!!
Ohh I have done that before at JJ and it just left me more hungry, never again.
Thank you, Taylor!
Good luck with your final! I find myself being snacky too when I am super busy. I tend to always munch on fruit, nuts, seeds and dried fruit!
Thanks, Sabrina!
Good luck with your last final! So exciting!!! When I was in college I was a big-time snacker. Meals were few and far between. too busy!
Thank you, Sarah!
I have tried an unwich and it was just like you said–a snack. Tasty though, but not enough to fill me up.
Definitely a snack!
oh yes we have had days before where we just snack instead of eating a meal. it happens. that usually happens to us when we are traveling 🙂 especially road trips haha
Road trips are definitely snack time for me!
That’s good to know about the Which wich wrapped in lettuce. I’ve thought about getting that before, but now I know. 🙂
So not worth the money!
Hi, With the high fiber content in Quest Bars, do you find them easy to digest? I’m yet to try them and was just wondering if they would cause any stomach issues (!) Thanks Katie. Tam
They haven’t caused me any problems on their own, but I once at an apple and a quest bar at once and it was too much fiber! I’m cautious to not eat a lot of other fiber-rich food too soon before or after a quest bar.
I think I’ve finally found my coffee jam – iced coffee with a tad bit of almond milk (or half and half if I am splurging) on top.
YES! Sounds like my kind of coffee drink, I love iced in the summer!
I’ve been craving an unwhich and a JJ pickle for the longest time. I need to make it happen!
I’ve been obsessed with sweet potatoes lately too.
You’re so close to being done!
Omg I cannot get enough of sweet potatoes right now!
I still want to try the quest cookie dough bar! I bet its delicious!
Ah so good, you’ve got to find one!
Your breakfast looks so good.
Good luck with the exam.
Thank you, Nikki!
Good Luck tonight! You’re so close!!!!!
Thanks, Sienna!
Are those frozen berries in your breakfast? I bet that would be delicious in the summertime!
Yep, frozen blueberries! They’re so good in the warm oat bran!
That’s so exciting you’re almost done!
I’ve tried making my own collard wraps at home before and I was still super hungry after eating them too – there’s just no good replacement for good old carbs. 😉
Haha I agree, Chelsea!
You’re SO SO close to being done!!!! YAYYYYYYY!!
I am impressed with how well you’re eating with being so busy with appts & studying. Impressive!
Thank you, Annette! And I just make sure to only buy healthy food, it makes it easier!
I made that same Jimmy John’s mistake once – UGH! The delicious Quest bars surely made up for it 😉
The quest bar totally made up for it!
Snacky days are the best days in my opinion haha
I agree, Lindsay!
I was going to say..that isn’t very much guac on that potato, but I am glad that you added more to it! 😉
Oh I added way more, I like to add toppings as I go – I just do that for the photo!
Congrats on almost being done! So close 🙂
Weekends tend to be a little more snacky for me rather than 3 square meals – and really, just when I have a really busy day!
Thanks, Sam! And I’m the same way, weekends are more snacky since I have the time.
I’ve had a lot of snacky days recently due to Hunter and his schedule. Some days I just don’t have a whole lot of time to sit down and eat a real meal. You gotta do what you gotta do sometimes!
Oh gosh, I can only imagine! I’m super jealous of your trail mix though, I might have to get some!
I’m dying to try quest bars after hearing you talk them up all the time! Just wondering where you buy them. I haven’t seen them in any stores and online they are pretty pricey, right?
They’re pricey anywhere, although GNC usually has some kind of sale. I’ve found them at vitamin shoppe and GNC, but if you go on their website they have a store locator!
sorry! just saw your quest bar review post : )
Ah haha that’s okay!
This actually happens to me most days, as I am pretty terrible at predicting my schedule most of the time. I wish I was able to eat a real sit down breakfast on more weekdays, but I do manage to make dinner almost every night!
That David’s tea sounds so amazing..the flavours they do..um wow! Jealous hehe.
Your big bowl of oat bran looks delicious as always and I am in love with that cookie dough quest bar.
Everything you eat looks so yummy! I’d like to know how you make a decision in David’s Tea though, I sometimes avoid it cause I could stand at the counter all day trying to pick a favorite haha 🙂
I love that David’s Tea! Right around the corner is an awesome pilates place that I go to once a week.
Also, Quest Bars are the bomb diggity. Have you ever microwaved/baked them? Amazeballs.
Don’t know what Tina’s Best Body Bootcamp is, but sounds fun!
